Newbie from Gosport
Hi everyone, new to forum and owner of a 2007 impreza hawkeye wrx wagon. I have owned a Mitsubishi FTO for the last 3 years and was a member of the owners club. With my wife due with our first child in 2 months it was time for an upgrade to something a bit bigger but still wanted power and came across this beauty.
Bodywork and underneath is in great nick and a little bit of work has been done to the engine bay with a remap by a previous owner-I'm sure it wont be long until I will be working to increase performance and put some bling into the engine bay. Couple of problems though that would appreciate some advice. When accelerating in 2nd gear and up I notice that I cant out foot down all the way, sounds as if the forge dump valve I have fitted is opening as I can hear a release of air. When accelerating moderately it only operates when I change gear however under hard acceleration I can hear it in between a gear change. A mate at work reckons I need to change the spring inside? Thoughts on this? I'm new to turbos so not that clued up Second problem is my immobilizer/alarm keeps sounding when I press the lock button on key, not sure how to stop it from going off-currently have to just lock manually in the door. I've checked to ensure all door/windows are fully shut so unsure as to what is causing it to keep going off. Looking forward to becoming an active member and meeting some of you guys at some meets soon. Sounds like the spring is too weak allowing it to open under boost. It's generally accepted that the OE valve is the best option on moderately tuned cars.
Have you got a keypad in the car from your alarm (usually in the fuse pocket bottom right on the drivers side of the dash) if so you have the sigma alarm which I had a manual for somewhere. |

Good choice of colour :)
Scotts (Silver Surfers) old Hawk STI had a similar number plate, that was YT07 |
Cheers for the warm welcome guys.
Managed to sort the boost problem. Whilst fitting a new spring to the dump valve I noticed the silicone pipe from the intercooler was loose-it appears it wasn't cut long enough and the jubillee clip wasn't even tight! All sorted now and wow this car has some serious power-fitted boost gauge today and getting 20 psi. I think the alloys will always split opinion, I love the fact they are 18" as the 17" on last car didn't fill the arches as well. Still have the problem with the alarm, will get garage to take a look when I take it for service. Will keep an eye out for you bigh221, what model and colour is yours? Are there many meets in the Hampshire area? |
Yea definitely agree with you Hongkongfooi, want to add a front carbon splitter, and in the long run going to look at lowering the car a bit, will give it a better stance. Not to low though, my FTO had a tendency of hitting bumps and kerbs!
