:10::doubleup::10:
OMG that cockpit is unreal.
They are some very clever guys who fly that beast.

As for the guppie how odd is that

worzel 31-05-2011 01:42 PM

Brilliant pics Keith :pics:

Love the Lightnings :tissue:

Isn't that Sea Vixen a stunning machine too

SUBARMAN 31-05-2011 02:36 PM

Thanks Guys!

Vulcan cockpit is real small and you feel like you are in a two-seat fighter trainer! Only up much higher off the ground! When you manoeuvre or taxi on the ground, you have to remember (apparently) that the front wheel is quite a way aft of the cabin when you swing round.
While I was sat in the pilot's seat, XH558 was on route to Southend, so I was sat there at the controls while the flying one was in the air! Awesome feeling!

You would have messed yourself Steve with all the Lightning stuff that was there. Two of them in their genuine QRA hanger and all the stuff they were selling - unbelievable! The Lightning fast taxi was "loud", but not as loud as the Nimrod funnily enough.

The Sea Vixen is a beautiful plane when unfolded. I can't get on with the "off-centre" cockpit though!

worzel 31-05-2011 03:00 PM

I darn near soiled myself looking at the pics! :tissue:

It would have been a salty man milk fest if I had been there! :tissue: :tissue: :tissue: :tissue: :tissue: :tissue:

Here is the ladder from the Navigator's table up to the cockpit. It's a tight squeeze between the seats up there!!

I was tempted to go to Brunters as was up at my parents at the weekend in Lincolnshire. But my dad was in hospital for some of the weekend, and decided it was too far to go for the day....maybe next time.

Only managed to see 3 Typhoons, 2 F-18's and the BBMF Dakota, so a quiet bank holiday for RAF Coningsby
Apparentley it was very busy on Tuesday after we left.......

Did the Lightning and Victor do full throtte runs as advertised ???
if so gutted....would love to see a Lightning fly again in the UK.

Snow scoobie55 03-06-2011 09:39 AM

Great pics of the Vulcan cockpit and it is amazing that they flew that type of aircraft all the way to the Falklands and back in 1982 with a number of inflight refuellings from the Victors. British engineering at its best. Would love to hear/see the Lightnings in the air again same as the Vulcan and not just doing high speed taxi runs. What a shot of a pair of Lightnings and a Vulcan in formation would look and sound like. I would definately buy a ticket for that airshow. A bit like the the Vulcan and the B-52 at Fairford last year. Fantastic.

Maybe there should be a new catagory on the site dedicated to airshows and pics for them as many of the people on this site seem to enjoy them. Just a thought.

SUBARMAN 04-06-2011 11:22 AM

Yes Lightning and Victor both did full throttle runs. Didn't get pics of the Lightning until he came back down the runway. There is a pic of it on Vulcan to the sky website. I will try and find it.

For the Queen's 25th Jubillee, I believe the Vulcan flew down the Mall with a Lightning escort. Will try and find pic.

SUBARMAN 04-06-2011 11:25 AM

Not my pic but I am sure this will help Worzel empty another box of tissues.

What a fantastic aircraft, would like to see that at Fairford, they have a few organised formations this year, shame the lightning could not be part of it.
