I have in fairness heard that Spa is better than the Ring from most people who have done both  |

The good thing is mate, we can potentially do both.
Doing Spa on the way down seems like a good idea. It's only 90 mins to the ring from there, so over to Spa for first thing, a day blasting round there, load up and drive down to the "Palace" for one of Ulrich's steaks. |

Some planning to do i reckon. |

Spa is much better than the ring. No tits falling of the track and shuting it for hours, you can drive much faster at spa in confidence knowing that just round the corner you may find a slow GT3 RS rather than a tourist bus  |
The ring for me was a case of have to do it, it was an experience and a half, but not something i would do again.
Spa ticks all the boxes for me,and then the ring for some spectating and of course the scenery/roads etc |

I think Martyn has hit the nail on the head to be honest :ok:
|
Omg now the two admins are in on it, bloody conspiracy. I am not having a go but the two of you have only done 1 lap of the Ring. Not really enough to make a judgment. Spa sounds fantastic & when i do it then i can compare. Mike your right about people falling off the Ring & the bus. This to me just adds up to the hype that makes the Ring so bloody dangerous. If it was easy then we would not have to leave England to find these difficult tracks :drive: Just my opinion chaps don't ban me.
|
Whooooooooaaaaahh there tiger!!!!
All I have really said is what I have heard. The only difference between me and Martyns is that I will be going back on the Ring for sure. It's the whole reason for the weekend away at the end of the day. I still haven't really been able to have a go round there properly. The good thing about doing both in the same weekend is obviously you can compare in a short space of time and probably similar weather, so all's fair. I know that they are 2 completely different beasts, so comapring will be quite tough. But hey, I'll struggle through that  |
Nige
Your banned;-) Your right i did one lap,it was a laugh but i dont have enough time or money to learn the track enough to really enjoy it. As a track day i would rather do donnington or Brands. I do love the whole german trip though, great place, beer, food and people. Anyhow Nige ,you dont need a track, the german roads seem to cut it for you:whistle::yeah: |

I do love the whole german trip though, great place, beer, food and people. Thats the THING mate. At any other track it's organized. You cant overtake here Nige, you must overtake or be overtaken with your indicator on Nige, give other people room Nige, get black flagged Nige. At the Ring its pay your money & kill yourself if you want Nige. 1 lap or 2 million laps it don't matter weather you know the place or not. What you do get is a form of mayhem with a little bit of order. Ive never known any other track [& i use to race bikes] give me a buzz like that place. Its giving me goose bumps just writing this. I did more laps in 17mins on my first car track day at Brands than ive done at the Ring. To be honest i got bored after that just because the adrenalin had gone & most of all it was to organized. This may not be making to much sence but i want door to door stuff going into bends & overtake where i can, inside or out. Anyway rant over sorry for nicking your thread C.j :ninja: I cant wait for the next visit to the Ring & if Spa is involved then even better. Now where's my keys im off for play around Camber's twisty bit's. |
Fair point Nige:ok:
As I have said, I still can't really pass on my judgement of the ring, not after one lap in the pissing rain. I'm really looking forward to going back there next year and giving it a good go round there. The difference between organised circuits like Brands and the chaos that is the ring are poles apart, so in fairness, comparing them is probably not fair for either. It's the same scenario as the mods we all do to our cars, it's all about whatever you want..... not what everyone else says you should do or like. Roll on next May  |
The reason i'm not slightly interested in doing the Ring is the feedback i get from people who have been there a lot more times than any of us on here.
Untill 2 years ago it was great, but recently there are too many people on there trying to set their own lap record, driving without disregard for any other road/track users. (ie the door to door/overtake anywhere stuff Nige mentions) I don't mean to offend Nige, but after reading your post i'd suggest entering Time Attack or the AAA series, as it sounds like normal track days aren't enough for you. |
I make myself sound like a pratt sorry. I am only up for this door to door stuff if the other driver is.The Ring was great 4 years ago when i first went & still is. If & only if you can get out on the Ring ahead of others or you can find a good gap in the traffic you can then go for it. Its obvious that your not going to get anywhere near a good time with heavy traffic about. Gary there is only 6 corners at Brands Indy so yes i got bored. As you know the GP is much better & would have kept my attention longer. Have i managed to back peddle enough now? Time attack or the AAA series i just don't have the funds for i work for the N.H.S. This is only my opinion dont:martyn:

Nige
You havnt made yourself sound a prat at all. I take my hat off to you as you sure give it 100% with a car that has cost you heaps of money. Think Moley is right though . Nige, your an adrenalin junkie that will not be happy with a general track day,too many regulations/rules/restrictions for you. What would be perfect is booking the ring for a limited number for a track day, as we know this is silly money, but wouldnt it be fantastic. Well it seems we have completely taken over C.J's thread Sorry mate. The pictures of C.J at spa have without doubt made me want to get down there at some point next year. |
There is certainly no need to apologise Nige, i do know what you mean.
I like pushing to car on track days, but i wouldn't be confident to push the car at the Ring, as there are far too many people out there who don't know what they are doing. Without proper track etiquette i can see why so many accidents happen there. I think some would agree that the only downside to the Brands evening was the Golf who ended up in our group, driving like a prat. He was driving like such a dick that i spent more time checking on him in my mirrors than i wanted to, and therefore wasn't able to concentrate on pushing the car as much as i wanted to.... as i want to be looking forwards, not backwards (if that makes sense) |
You just pick your moments at the ring... i didnt get up early like the rest and had a few laps later with just me and a RG Motorsport Evo going for it, didnt see another car on one lap :)

Test the car? go to Spa Test the driver? Nordschleife OMG I should be a poet Great shots BTW :ok: Count me in for joint Ring / Spa trip next year  |

I have driven the ring very fast in the wet and will probly not bother again unless its a proper track day there, as the closing speed of my car aganist a normal car driven by jo bloggs, is to much for the blind crests there. For me Spa for the limits Ring for the risk |
I've driven both and the two are uncomparabe TBH. They are both immense places to drive thats for sure.
SPA is by far the best 'track' I've driven and I've driven a fair few Great pics BTW |

Agree with Nige. Neil is one very quick man around the Ring, I (and others) have had the pleasure of watching him on the track and some of his vids.
To use one of Nige's sayings..... "Top Peddler" :ok: The one thing that is coming out of this discussion, is the fact that we are going to 2 of the best places possible next year, so we have got a trip to remember in the pipeline for next year for sure. I will start making some enquiries soon as to what we can arrange at spa for the time we have booked for the Ring, so that we either go on the way there or the way back. Just typing this has made me realise, it's just a little over 7 months until we go, bloody hell thats coming round quickly! |

If we struggle to get dates for Spa (is hard to arrange apparently) it might be worth contacting the MLR (Lancer Register) and see if we can tag along with them, of if they can advise us at all. They go out there twice a year i think.
