British Rallycross Championship R10 2022 – Lydden Hill

Last motorsport weekend of the year for me, back at Lydden for the finale of the 5 Nations British Rallycross Championship.

Running an event this late in the year mean bad weather is of course more likely, but they have been lucky in 2020 and 2021. That wasn’t the case this time around as it was wet. Very wet. Not the best for spectating in, but certainly made the racing entertaining…

Patrick O'Donovan was looking to become the youngest British Champion and needed just a half decent result on the Saturday to take the title.

There were a few drivers over from Europe including Daniel Thoren in an Eklund Motorsport Beetle.

Thoren wasn't as quick as I expected, but the Beetle sounded superb plus it was producing some excellent flames. I approve.

The racing on Saturday concluded with a session in the dark under floodlight. Lydden have done this the last couple of years and it has been great to spectate.

Patrick O'Donovan had done enough to take the title at the midpoint of the day, but he finished with an absolutely incredible performance in the night final, winning the race by over 30 seconds.

Unfortunately conditions were so bad throughout Saturday and into the evening that the circuit and paddock flooded in a number of areas and so the second day of racing was cancelled. It was a shame to end the season that way, but an understandable decision given the circumstances.

Nice set of pictures, looked fun. How much does a day ticket as a spectator cost you.

Saturday was £22.50 in advance or £25 on the gate, I think a full weekend ticket was £37.50.

I think that is pretty reasonable for what should have been two full days (and a bit of evening) racing.

That seems very fair pricing for a weekend ticket. Something I've never been to,will have a look at the scheduling for next year.
