Festival of speed

Anyone going to the Festival of speed this year. Just looking at a flight to Stansted and then a shared helicopter ride. Bit expensive, but quite an easy option from here as we can fly from a local airport at Deauville

Banstead Stig 28-05-2017 09:17 PM

Yep, Sunday for me. Same as every year... :geek:

Red Baron 28-05-2017 09:19 PM

I'll probably go on the Friday, need to sort my tickets out. Think one of the days is sold out already.

The Handbrake 28-05-2017 09:59 PM

We are going on Saturday, Dave is also going on the Thursday too

C. J. 28-05-2017 10:03 PM

Saturday for me which is sold out

Scott.T 29-05-2017 08:14 AM

Sunday for me this year as they moved the usual school inset day for the Friday this year.

Steve_PPP 29-05-2017 12:25 PM

Not sure if i'll make this years.... if I manage to source some freebie tickets to the thursday like last year then I might just do that.

Frenchie 29-05-2017 01:00 PM

Is any day better than the others. Never been before.

Depends what you're after.

In terms of the hill climb, you're likely to see all the same cars, and most of the same drivers, whichever day you go (not Thursday as that's not a hill climb day), but if you want to see the shootout and the winner crowned, you'll need to go on Sunday.

The rest of the show is very similar each day, with different things going on all over the place.

Sunday used to be the day the big names went, but it's much more spread across the weekend now. Last year I seem to recall Lewis Hamilton was only there on the Saturday, for example.

Traditionally the air displays were different too, but I think they've been pulled now post-Shoreham.

Either of the two weekend days. Saturday is my personal preference as it tends to be a fuller day: you get the shootout on Sunday, but things normally wind up a little earlier and some of the historic cars (especially on the rally stage) will have broken. If your main interest is seeing cars on the hillclimb though, then go for Sunday.

Thursday and Friday are good if you can't make the Saturday or Sunday, but there is more happening over the weekend days.

Thursday is the moving motor show

Excellent.

I don't remember there being any air displays last year, but I was preoccupied with it being the Stiglet's first visit.

In the "old days" you tended to get different things depending on the day, especially if the Vulcan was showing.

im up there friday cant wait havnt been in afew years:ok:

Red Baron 29-06-2017 07:54 AM

Can anyone that's there today give us a update on the ground conditions, hoping the rain in the build up hasn't left it too muddy. The walk across the golf course was more like one of those extreme cross country runs last year.

Scott.T 29-06-2017 08:12 AM

I've un-installed Facebook and instagram from my phone for the next few days as dont want to know anything until on site Sunday.

Ginola 29-06-2017 07:26 PM

Conditions fine little muddy in places in the car park and off of a few metal walk ways. I've come home with a clean pair of shoes. They did have some cars run up the hill today (race cars. Some mentalist smashed an rs200 group B car up at Molcombe :s

That would be Pat Doran. Not the first time that car has been in the wars, hopefully its just panel damage and the car will be back out again over the weekend.

It was back up and running today but looking a little rough around the edges, Liam Dorran was running the black Pikes Peak RS200 and his dad was in the Q8 oils one that had the mishap on Thursday.

I've taken a few photos but only on my phone, I'll stick them up on Sunday once everyone has been.

According to my sons FITBIT we did 16km and over 22000 steps and we never went near the rally stage.
