A change for the winter..

After months of searching for something 500bhp and reliable i gave up...to many people selling turds for top money.. i wanted something else i could have abit of fun in for the winter, that was built for the outdoors(save me tucking it away in the garage) i had wanted one for long time and after driving my oldmans, i had to treat myself... so a quick trip up the 25, a cambelt change and service later, she was good to go..Fully loaded 2 owners with low millege and full history, aswell electric everything,so nice to have some creature comforts and suprisingly good on a run aswell!

i wouldnt recommend replacing the fuel pump belt in a hurry either as its situated down the back of the engine and requires you to work blind and with one hand, this took longer than the cambelt to replace and for obvious reasons i dont have any pictures, unfortunatly i wasnt willing to pay harwoods the £1200 they wanted to replace both belts.but have the war wounds to prove it.

Nice.

A chap near me has a Hawk kit, same colour as yours. It looks great.

How low mileage? A Disco would suit my needs in many ways, but the potential bills put me off. I suspect it's not as bad as many make out, especially if it's not a high miler.

munk 16-01-2017 10:48 PM

74 thousand miles this one...i think if your handy with spanners it wont be to costly.. main dealer prices are comical! And i think.half the battle is finding one thats been looked after and not abused.. i very nearly didnt buy one.. after reading through the net, but then when i actually stopped people and asked friends and randoms that owned them not one gave them abad review and i asked alot of bods, the oils and filters.. cambelt kit and general parts are suprisingly reasonable i think...really is a nice bit of kit. A couple of people spoke of friends who have them knocking on 300thousand mile marks and only reporting general wear and tear costs....

Good to hear.

I'm not really able to tackle things myself, as although I'm not fat, neither am I practised. It wouldn't be the best thing to learn on I don't think!

Nice motor

My Liz loves these and has been looking for a while to move on from her 04 plate Disco .When the tiddlywinks were small it's was great for all things, towing, 7-up, loaded to the roof camping holiday's in France, bikes on the back etc.
Now not really needed anymore trying to convince her otherwise is a challenge I'm to old to take on,she loves the size of the thing, (yes I have told her size isn't everything :-D) the seating position and how it drives.
I don't like the 89 litre fuel tank ,economy on the 04 diesel is not good and yes when they do go wrong it's can be £ainful and I only have half a spanners ability to fix things and have to rely on specialist to sort.
The later Disco 4 ' s get great reviews with the experts saying that Landrover have finally sorted out all the gremlins , but they are still a lot of money, the new version is launched soon I think and Liz is hoping this will have an effect on pricing and availability as people trade in for a new one .
Look forward to more updates.:ok:

Is very nice drive didnt think id get on with the auto but really pulls well for something thats the best part of three ton...thinking of a remap for a few more figures and to chuck abit of soot around.. as for cleaning its not to bad either as everythings color coded so not to much messing around with the detailed bits.

Thats exactly why i opted for an earlier one.. the money that was there to be lost has been already and they seem to have settled around a decent figure and seem to be holding there..my close friend has just bought a new one and theres no way i could justify the 20 thousand extra hes just paid to step up,as lovely as it is!the disco 3 seem to have an amazing review off road aswell.. and i can honestly say iv never heard a sweeter sounding diesel v6 .good combination from jag and peugeot.:ok: keep pushing the wife will be worth it.

We keep looking at these for a tow car but always end up scrolling through the Range Rover Supercharged V8's!

munk 17-01-2017 05:05 PM

Haha very good aswell!!! The land rovers are supposed to be one of the best as a tow car by all acounts.. not a range rover fan, but my uncle had a supercharged v8.. jesus did it go for a barge.!!!:worthy:

That was supposed to say, "although I'm not daft", rather than, "although I'm not fat". Bloody autocorrect!

I'm not fat, but that's irrelevant.

munk 17-01-2017 08:58 PM

i did wonder, didnt quite no how to reply to that one...

I really like these and was tempted this time around, but need a bit of speed back in my life. Why anyone would pick an RR sport over one of these I don't know. The Disco is so practical and doesn't have the same image problem.

im definetly not a range rover fan myself, and very nearly went mk2 focus rs, looked at couple of 400 bhp examples and bailed as i still think that you need the four wheels for anything over a few hundred bhp, id have yours anyday over a range rover, only in the blue though.:yeah:
