European Breakdown

Before I sort this for the trip what companies are good to use as just looked at R.A.C and they do everything at a good price.

Steve_PPP 05-01-2015 05:28 PM

I normally get mine through Gary at Keith Michaels.... nice and easy :)

Ginola 05-01-2015 06:38 PM

Recovery covered on the ring.. = ADAC

You need to ring through to Germany for it though. I will see if I can dig the details out, it costs about 104 euros a year for myself and Handbrake to be covered in any vehicle.

Red Baron 05-01-2015 06:44 PM

A lot of the UK companies don't cover cars over 15 years old so check the small print carefully, I used Churchill last year as they were one of the few that covered up to 15 year old cars. As Dave said, ADAC are the only ones that will recover you from the Ring for free but not sure what their policy is for older cars.

I just buy it for the weekend rather then pay the expense of including it in my general annual premium.
I think I have used AXA most years.

ADAC
Contact number

"Telephone enquiries and to join and pay my debit/credit card phone offices Tel No. 00 49 89767 66632 and speak to one of the four staff who speak fluent English.

ps.. I have just changed the above number the old number did not seem to work

555_Si 06-01-2015 09:35 AM

yep can recommend ADAC, sometimes have to leave a voicemail for them to call you back, but worth it.

Granby 06-01-2015 09:42 AM

ADAC for me as well, they use the AA in the UK as I found out when the scooby engine let go :(

Anger 06-01-2015 08:07 PM

I use the KM company, were spot on when my blob broke down last year

jmcc42uk 12-01-2015 06:40 PM

So does this cover accidents and breakdown both on and off the ring?

I believe ADAC are the only company that covers both..

Red Baron 12-01-2015 09:12 PM

Think RAC specifically state that they will not recover or repair any vehicle damaged while being used on the Nurburgring. ADAC are the only people that will do that. Also worth noting that most will only cover repatriation costs up to a certain value of the car, sure you could probably pay the difference if there was a problem. This was my concern last year with taking a car that had just ticked over 15 years old and probably had a book value of about £1000 on a good day

BIG"E" 23-01-2015 12:30 PM

ADAC
Contact number

Just renewed mine in about 45 seconds.

So they won't understand scottish then :rofl::rofl:

brightonmunich 26-01-2015 03:45 PM

ADAC are a good one to go for.
IF a car is old and has a low book value. They will NOT recover.

However if you argue with them. They often ask for the car to be taken to the nearest Subaru dealership and whoever looks at the car there talks to ADAC head office and if he knows what he is looking at they will recover. If he does not and does not put your case forward. You are stuck.

Your car can also be confiscated by the German police. This eventuality is highly unlikely as you lot only go to Germany a few times. Most police are not interested and would not know how to go about it any way as you are on UK plates. A very few policemen can stop and confiscate - it will be on noise and lack of cats in the exhaust. This seems to be more of an issue in the south of Germany than arround the ring area.

I am sure that you will not hit any issues as as a rule Germany is one of the best countries to drive in Europe with a UK plated car :)

jmcc42uk 09-03-2015 10:48 PM

So ADAC are the only ones to go with? Are they're no UK companies?

Scott.T 09-03-2015 11:26 PM

I normally just get cover from someone like Alianz for the Ring weekend through money supermarket.

If you are unlucky enough to brake down who do you think they will call in to recover. My guess is ADAC as they have a depot in Adeneau.

scotty 14-04-2015 11:10 AM

Just phoned ADAC got to do it online now to get cover .

555_Si 14-04-2015 11:14 AM

scotty 14-04-2015 11:31 AM

Just get 3 day cover from moneysupermarket. I think mine was with Aliance.
I wouldn't worry too much about ADAC because if you crash on the ring there is likely to be only one recovery service turn up and that's ADAC as their depot is in Adenau about 100yds from the hotel.

If you need to be recovered from the Ring and you're not covered by ADAC it can be megga expensive,

If you are with ADAC recovery it is free (I believe)

SpecB 14-04-2015 05:11 PM

I used the KM recommended company for the trip I broke down on the Autobahn on - 45 mins later the car was collected and gone, 2 weeks later it was home.

Scooby_Greg 14-04-2015 05:35 PM

I'm not sure if ADAC can recover from the ring any more but I've only ever seen that it's Bongard and I'm not sure there's any affiliation and so you'll get charged anyway.
I'll see if I can find out.

scotty 14-04-2015 05:35 PM

Still can't get ADAC cover as its only excepting German addresses due to a technicality online and can't do it over the phone so given Gary a phone tomorrow to get me covered .

Correct, the recovery fee from the circuit is 250 euros and that'll only get you to the car park. If you're an ADAC member, it's free.

Saying that, I've never been with ADAC!

Despite the sponsorship with the N24, etc I'm not sure that agreement is still in place but I'm finding out.

Thanks Greg, I was going on the info on nurburgring.org.uk (Ben Lovejoy's site).

If its not the case anymore, then I'm even more like to just keep using Moley as its always nice and easy to sort :)

I tried that twice Ian and they told me to do it online must be the strong Scottish accent they can't understand :lol::lol:

Scooby_Greg 15-04-2015 09:55 AM

Waiting for confirmation from ADAC but it appears that you still have to pay the €250 recovery directly to Bongard but you can claim it back. The ADAC member obviously has to be the one driving. It only seems to be if you have the 'plus' membership.

I have not yet heard directly from ADAC and so cannot confirm definitively but a couple of reliable local contacts say that it is still the case. If you are an ADAC plus customer you may or may not pay the €250 to Bongard but if you do pay you can claim this back. If you're speaking to ADAC directly it may be worth checking.

I will raise this issue when I have a chat with our good friend Amanda there : D .

If you find anything out in the mean time I'd appreciate any advice Greg : ) .

Let's see if I can get you free beer this time Simon, but Jo won't be allowed to be involved in the stunt as we'll pretend it's your birthday, your single, a celeb, you've never kissed a German, etc etc ; ) .

555_Si 21-04-2015 09:02 PM

Sounds good, though Jo doesn't approve.

jmcc42uk 09-05-2015 02:02 PM

Don't some bank accounts give free breakdown cover? Not sure if it's European though
