Nurburg Castle Pics

These are the pics from the trip to Nurburg Castle on the Saturday Morning. Virtually all "People Pics", as before, these are not full resolution.

My next batch will be the VLN Race from the Saturday afternoon :drive:

Indeed I do mate, very impressive stuff. :ok:

It's the fact that it is continuous batten / lathe / wire! Instead of courses as we would do it here (as per an oast house) So it would be slated as one continuous course!

Nice pics Steve !

Interesting detailing on the eaves course too, they lap the opposing side? Would love to slip a few out to see how the headlap works:ok:

All the other piccies are great to and can't wait to enjoy the trip in 2012:ok:

Oh mate, your right looks like I was on it all the time but I wasn't :-) honest.. It's not midget porn it only looks like that because of the screen size!!

Great pics Steve :-)

I would love to have a look at them too! I can't quite imagine the dimensions. I would guess at somewhere around 20x10s. It's the weathering part that fascinates me. Unlike our slates (and peg tiles) where the third course weathers the first and so on. The way this comes in from the side makes it very interesting indeed!

What a pair of roof geeks we are

BIG"E" 14-06-2011 07:18 PM

Good pictures Steve,

I was also fascinated with the way the slates have been put on.

I suppose doing it the way they do, you can use the same width all the way to the top as opposed to diminishing the widths the higher up you go.?

Scooby_Greg 14-06-2011 08:03 PM

Some great photos - what a view from the top!

Good call Ian, I think you have hit the nail on the head.

They would end up being so narrow and tapered at the top if you did it any other way :ok:

not quite sure what to make of all the geek talk about roofs, but good photos anyway :D

Old builders never die, me just smell like Martyn and talk ********!

If you are into things like this, it's fascinating to see how other people do what we have done differently for years. Plus, we have (or Ian) worked out the why's and wherefores.

Cheers BTW! :ok:

Hongkongfooi 14-06-2011 08:46 PM

guess you lot won't want to go there again? Looks like us that missed out this year might go to the castle in 2012...looks good from the photos!

majorscooby 14-06-2011 09:14 PM

quality pics as always,:ok:

Its not until you count a small section of those slates that you actually realise how many are on there, mmmmm i wonder! Nice work though, shaped nicely.

Johnny Bonkers 15-06-2011 09:15 AM

I say!! Great pics, but I am finding the "roofing chat" especially scintillating, and am inspired to go on a course at the local college!!
