Nitro Advise

Hi People,

I know this is not real car related, but my son has asked for a Nitro Off road car (its his birthday today), So I have given him money to go towards buying one.. Now he wants me to help buy it..

Now I know enough about RC toys and Planes , Heli's etc but nothing about Nitro cars.. Any advice would be good on what I need and what is good and what is bad..

Thanks

Skullfudge 23-06-2011 08:15 AM

Make sure when you buy one it's a popular model. Maker( may pay more than others) but it will be so much easier to source parts... When it gets damaged!! Messed up years ago buying a cheaper version( because it came with lots of free shiny bits) always been a thunder tiger fan... :yeah:

centurion73 23-06-2011 08:39 AM

I m unsure about the fuels, I have seen one car Thunder tiger (THUNDER TIGER DT-10) version that runs on 16% Nitro.. (what does that mean)

Skullfudge 23-06-2011 08:42 AM

You can buy the fuels premixed from most retailers that sell the cars mate.

centurion73 23-06-2011 08:45 AM

OK so I would buy 16% Nitro, I assume thats what you meant...

Is 16% Nitro a common mix ?
The car comes with Glow plug / spanners etc.. is there something else I need from the off ?

munk 23-06-2011 09:52 AM

The handset aswell mate?? Not taking mick lot of them have to be bought separately ..:-(

centurion73 23-06-2011 09:54 AM

this one has a 2.4 ghz version with it.. thank god... its 2nd hand but looks new

centurion73 23-06-2011 05:45 PM

My son won this in the end

We collect it tomorrow

Ive got a Scoobie Thunder Nitro RC, after two weeks of trying to get it started, after 10 mins of using it properly, I snapped a drivshaft..lol.

They are stupidly fast. :-D

centurion73 23-06-2011 10:07 PM

I hope he does not break it thqt quickly

Scooby Roo 24-06-2011 05:44 AM

No but it'll probably take as long to get the thing started....

Wait till you start modding :D

Guy over here races at a professional level and his buggy is nearly all carbon fibre

Mortster 24-06-2011 06:53 AM

Mines already sporting nice new black alloys.

centurion73 24-06-2011 09:49 AM

Cool

Not used a nitro car for ages!

I got rid of mine along time ago and went electric ;) Less noise when im using it in a residential area!

I would only go back to nitro for the off road side of things!

Foam Tyres ftw, ( Rubber ones just become unstuck and tear themselves to pieces )

Son picked his up today, he is already talking like a true modder lol... thank god its not scoobies yet (my bank might not take it), but saying that I think I be getting involved in this too.. gonna get me one too lol

I used to own what Skullfudge has, an HPI Savage 4.6 big block.
Awesome bit of kit mega fast off road but being nitro and all they can become tiresome with starting issues due to weather temp, the correct glow plugs and the correct fuel mixture for summer and winter!:-( plus you need a big bag of spares if you go right out into the deep woods with em and start doing jumps!

Decided to jack all the nitro stuff in and went out and bought the HPI Baja 5B with 23cc two stroke engine, which lasted two weeks may i add as i found a tuned exhaust a 26cc piston and head upgrade which i had to have.

But these are so much more user friendly, so easy to start as there pretty much a tuned strimmer engine, pull and go. easy to work on and the fuel lasts 20 times longer. 1 tank to the nitro's 6 or 7.

There's a better version out now Call the Baja 5Bss and the 5Tss which is a truck, these have all the alloy upgrades on already.

Mmmm got me thinking again now.

Did you know that someone came up with a bright idea of making radio controlled submarines ????????? You can buy them.!

Do you roll your trousers up standing in a shallow lake bent over wearing a snorkel with your face just under the water ?

Do you lay under the water so the only thing visible is an arm hanging out the water holding the controls ?

Or maybe you just steer the thing on top of the water in which case you should have bought a fooking boat ?

I've never quite worked that one out.

Granby 25-06-2011 10:06 AM

Baja very nice major

Seems there quite a few on here as well as Kent Scoobies with RC's so maybe we should organize a meet up sometime :)

Scruff 25-06-2011 10:27 AM

I used to have something like one of these:

http://www.westwalesmodels.co.uk/Web...r_ftq_1000.jpg

Mine was Schumacher nitro 10. It was a 1/10th scale model but it had a 1/8th scale engine. The thing was nuts! Easily did 60-70mph (used to race my mates in their real cars) but also used to eat drive shafts!

Granby 25-06-2011 11:18 AM

This maybe a useful site for all RC owners http://www.msuk-forum.co.uk/index

stiggy 25-06-2011 11:44 AM

Looks like I might have a bit of time on my hands so I'll dig out the toys again :-)

Thought i'd bring this thread back up in case there's anyone else with RC's, if the weather starts getting warmer i think it could be time to bring them out again http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ys/Mj24341.gif

phil1981 21-02-2012 07:05 PM

yeah i have a few rc cars.
From a savage to a gigga crusher twin engined to a baja 5b to a revo, to a 1/5 scale petrol truck to a brushless e revo and a few more lol

ralliart didz 21-02-2012 07:54 PM

some nice toys guys.
ive always wanted 2 get some old steam engine models, like traction engines or old steam lorry.anyone have any of these.

Scott.T 21-02-2012 08:59 PM

Any more info on the 2-stroke models.
what do the prices start at and how does the noise compare to a nitro.

The road out the front of me is ideal (un-adopted track) and getting through 3 batteries in 20 mins gets a bit tedious with an electric car, so have often thought about fueled versions.

Granby 21-02-2012 09:10 PM

Blimey 3 batteries in 20 mins, what are you using, i get around 25-30 mins out of my lipo packs

phil1981 21-02-2012 09:49 PM

prices would start from £500 i think and are just as noisey as nitro but last alot longer on a tank of fuel

Or could always get a very good lipo or 2:norty: and brushless system if you want quite and speed

BrianP1 21-02-2012 10:56 PM

Get him a Top Fuel Dragster........
