V power
Since iv owned the 1 iv always used tesco 99 mainly because shell garages are all a trek away from me... Have been thinking lately about going and filling up with v power just to see if it makes that much difference.. everyone seems to think it will?? If I do this then decide it really wasn't worth the hassle can I continue using tesco without it having any effect on the car?? Opinions please ??:brickwall:

If it's std you're probably ok - I ran mine on Tesco's 99 right up until the first map when I switched to V-Power. Otherwise run it on what it's mapped for just avoid BP ultimate!

Totally standard apart from panel filter!! So swapping and changing won't effect it?

No, The standard map with the WR1 is for 97 ron. Mine definitely feels better with V power, and has not ever missed a beat. |
If you are running on 99 anyway you wont feel any difference swapping to V Power.
|
If the car runs full timing advance on 97 you won't feel any difference on 99 because the car's got no more timing to give, depite the extra RON.
I always used to map and run my car on Esso 97 as the garage was the closest. I never felt any difference on Tesco 99 or V-power. It was an apexi ECU so the timing run would be what I told it rather then the OE ECU being able to advance timing slightly dynmically to the max set limit if no knock was being detected. I could probably have given the map a tweak by adding a couple of degree's timing if running on 99 and maybe worth doing for a rolling road meet, but the bumometer would probably struggle to feel it. |
I have run my 2003 STi on all three - Ultimate, Momentum & V-Power.
Ultimate was my bad, used to run my Turbo 2000 on it and it was OK. Didn't realise the new car wanted 98 minimum. Anyway it ran like a bag of ****. Momentum I tried and liked, not much difference what-so-ever (to my less than knowledgable self anyways) the only reason I use V-Power is that Tesco is further away. Edit: My car is standard, apart from panel filter, 2nd de-cat. |
Thanks people great help :ok:

Most noticed by my wallet though also.. |
Just out of curiousity, how much does the 102 ron cost?
|
quite a lot when you add the ferry costs lol

Same position as you Marcus - Vpower not local. I reckon vpower feels slightly smoother (car is mapped for this) but Momentum is a good substitute and cheaper when need to fill up locally, and does not cause any running problems that I can detect.
:SMBLU: |
When I had mine always ran it on momentum as nearest Shell is chuffing miles away. Ran fine on it, did run it on V-power when I could.
The BP in portsmouth was doing 102 RON last time I checked (quite some time ago) but everytime I went there they were out of it!! |
Dont run my scoob on anything but V power :)
|
As per many above, I only ever run on V-power if possible. Although I do have an emergency bottle of octane boost in the glove box, just in case I need to do a 97 Super Unleaded + Octane Boost.
If you are running on Tesco 99, you will find that there will be little if any difference, like Keith said, maybe slightly smoother. |

I use tesco 99 in my 2001 jap sti with no problems, also used it for 3 years in my 1994 sti classic. Drove 30 miles after petrol light came on in my bug, coming back from santa pod last time! but would not recommend doing it.

I have always used the Shell V-Power as that is what was recommended to me when I bought my WRX STi Type UK and have used it ever since with the one exception in the west country - Dorset to be exact - and used 20quids worth of BP ultimate and it seemed fine but I am now back to the diet of Shell V-Power and is it worth buying shares in Shell as the cost of it is going through the roof at the mo.
But I did see a piece on this week's BBC F1 coverage when Alonso used both his regular fuel for his F1 car and then switched over the V-Power and he said it didn't make that much difference to him and with a bit of remapping work would be ok. Opinions? |
