Felix's P1

Back in April I bought my P1 , It was one of the two Prodrive presscars used during the P1's launch. The car had been with it's previous owner for the last 5 years , but he was not involed with any clubs or shows , so when I start posting about my ownership many had thought the car had gone.

The car had been really impressive untill one fatefull night when things went really belly up.....

As you can see some proper carnage of the Nth degree. The engine was mullered beyond repair and the chaps at Scooby-Projects came up with a numbe of options , but the ace in the pack was a very nice spec Zen Performance engine that was up for grabs with just 6000 miles.

The spec of the build was , STI9 nitrided crank, forged rods, original pistons, ACL black series race bearings, ARP stud set, cosworth steel head gaskets, lateral 12mm oil pump, new oil modine, new sump, reground valves and seats. No expensive was spared with this build and a bill of £8000 proved it's no corner cutting attitude.

One installed and all damaged parts were replaced , the boys at SP got Bob Rowle to do the mapping. The final figures and power graph made me a happy bunny.....

The car was given a good clean up before I collected and this is how it looked when I arrived....

Most importantly my mascot was presentable

I've now had the car back 12 days and I have done 500 miles and it's been another eye opener. The car feels so much easier to drive with all that yummy torque and now the mapping is right the overrun is brilliant. I took the car upto an e30 meet last Sat and instead of the normal anti-jap attitude ( just light humor ) the guys and gals were impressed with it

Well done Felix nice job mate.

Ignore Nige, he tried driving across France with a turbo that had no moving parts.

He has day care and obviously replied to your post before they had handed out his daily medicine :)

ralliart didz 13-09-2011 09:09 PM

very nice felix.

Scott.T 13-09-2011 09:48 PM

WOW !!!!! just think of the forces involved to smash a hole in the block and shatter the rods like that....very impressive, if just a little expensive.

Are there any P1's on here still running their original short engine ?? maybe just the prototype ??

IIRC the P1 ECU was supposed to be adjusted by Prodrive for UK fuel, and IIRC and from an image file I have of the STi V5 or V6 and one believed to be from a P1 ECU, there is no difference. Hence why and quite litrally in this case they 'Detonate'.

Glad you got it sorted though, and looks like a top motor.

Felix 14-09-2011 02:41 AM

Mine was on it's 2nd lump. It had just done 30,000 miles. Dingle on the P1 forums is on his orginal and has done 120,000 in it.

Even if my engine had not of gone I would have eventually gone for an engine build like the one I now have , only it's cost me less than half the purchase cost to do!

bigemp 14-09-2011 08:12 AM

Lovely looking p1 at least you will hopefully get to enjoy it now,had 100k on my p1 with the original engine still in and still pulled like a train!!!!

tbtstt 14-09-2011 10:45 AM

Bloody hell! That properly went pop, didn't it?

Glad to see you stuck with it and have got yourself a sorted car now. Looks lovely in the pictures.

Skullfudge 14-09-2011 11:19 AM

Yep there are several P1's on the original engine

Krissyb 14-09-2011 02:48 PM

Mines had a replacment at some stage early in it's life but this ones been awesome so far........

Martyn 14-09-2011 04:44 PM

I blow mine up after only owning it for 512 miles ! It spent five and a half months at API, but its properly sorted now. I don't want to have to rebuild it again !
