Vulcan weekend

In spite of parental illness within the family, we got away for the weekend for the Vulcan Trust Member's Day at Doncaster Airport, and on the way back visited Newark Air Museum - very well worth a visit. Here's a small selection of photos.

Kev Rumens, former Gulf War Tornado pilot and famous for performing Vulcan wing-overs. Who is the chap on the left?

But what's this? Another Vulcan?

Closest I have got to flying one, Clive, is sitting in the left hand seat with both hands on the stick (yes, a bomber with a joystick rather than a control column) and making jet whooshing noises. This was surprisingly satisfactory!!

Firstly, sorry to read about the parental Illness mate, I hope all is well.

Cracking pictures Sir! I particularly like the pic of the Javelin, they are lovely things

It certainly looks like you had a great time :ok:

LOL Keith :) Your love of the Vulcan has always had me wondering if you flew them at some stage.

They certainly do roar when flying over !!!

Newark is great, went 3 or 4 years ago and had the full cockpit tour/talk. well worth the extra £1 IIRC.

After my visit with typhoon 3 Sqd, we are being taken around the BBMF on Thursday.

Yes the £1 still applies for whatever cockpit they have open on the day. Tried to shoehorn myself into a Canberra cockpit and it is a tortuous route from the side door for sure.

Indeed Clive. Part of the attraction for me is the mad group of eccentric British Buggers who won't just let this complex 1950's bomber die. It's one of the last British designed and built aircraft and is the most complex restoration undertaken on such a huge machine. And it has to meet all current CAA requirements, for which it was not designed.

I also love the fact that it is supported purely by donations from the public. Mad really!
