differences between a uk sti blob and jdm?

Can some one please tell me what the differences between the two are, as started to look at buying one now.
Is there anything to look out for on them other than norm?

thanks benji

There's probably a fair few differences, if i'm correct then the JDM models have a twin scroll turbo, redline at a higher Rpm, have a more aggresive cam and maybe a bit lighter than the uk ones due to chassis strengthening for road safety laws......

There will be some people on here who know for sure......!!

Hongkongfooi 26-11-2011 02:46 PM

think the heads have larger valves? supposedly stronger engines although dont know why.

Twin scroll, higher 8000rpm red line, stronger internals, not sure they are any lighter, as I think you need a spec c for lighter panels etc, but may be wrong. Only downside is they dont make the same noise as the uk cars.

Thanks for the info
Lucky what do you mean by the nosie difference? Is that down to the twin scroll, I like the sound of stronger internals.. Do jdm blobs come up much?

Anger 26-11-2011 04:53 PM

You lose the burble and gain a engine that screams like a bike

scooby doo 26-11-2011 05:44 PM

That's ok, is there any external differences?

Anger 26-11-2011 05:51 PM

Not if its a JDM STi verse UK STi

you might be lucky and get one with hid lights as standard or maybe a rear wiper? other than that no.

Anger 26-11-2011 05:55 PM

Ive got the JDM HIDS on mine

HID's, rear wiper and t/scroll all std on JDM STi cars.............

as for the internals then they are very similiar for all STi's and all 2.0STi's have the 8K redline (only the 2.5 UK STi had the lower redline)

as for the noise then personally i think the t/scroll sounds fantastic and pound for pound gives far more "shove" than anything else

The non-Spec C cars also have tinted rear windows and a circular key hole in the boot (non that they help with performance ;) )

The gearing is generally shorter too, and tended to get the suspension upgrades a year ahead of the UK spec cars.

Moley_WRX 26-11-2011 08:27 PM

I thought the gearing was the same, except 6th, which is shorter on the JDM

Correct

6th UK 0.756

6th Jdm 0.842

Other than that identical

Not sure so might want to ask. Imports can be one group higher on insurance. New imports need mapping.:five:
