Scratched glass.

Hi, Can anyone help?
My rear nearside passenger window on the Scoob has some scratches.(thumbnail size in length and width and not deep) which I need to remove before it drives me stir crazy! :cuckoo:

Have tried Google (suggests everything from powders from fleabay to toothpaste!)
Also have approached a couple of glass companies with mixed reactions, ranging from " £100 for the 1st hour mate" (crikey its only a fooking scratch) to sharp intake of breath " Cant except any liability mate as the glass might shatter!"

Any `polite` suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve

I used to be in the glass industry for a while.

There is something called Jewellers Rouge that we used to use on ordinary annealed glass (every day glass).

But as your window is toughened it is likely to pop with the heat thats generated in the polishing.

Its an awkward one this, see if you can get a second hand replacement?

ps. Not sure if Anger can help.

Replace it ! Breakers must have some. In the end it will save on labour. :drive:

Get yourself some Cerium Oxide:ok:

You can get the kits from Glass scratch repair As 'E' touched on though, be carefull with the heat build up when using it:ok:

Then clean the window pads inside the door or they will just come back again....

Thanks for advice everyone :ok:, think I will give it a go with your suggestions and at worse replace as Nige suggested.

Incidentally the side window is tinted , do you know if that will that make any difference to the tolerance to heat when polishing?

:thanx:

Stupid question,

I take it the scratch is on the outside?

Does it have a stick on tint,

or is it in the glass?

If its a stick on tint it may well melt trying to remove the scratch. :polish:
