Is a turbo blanket better than a OEM heatshield?
Are there any issues with using a turbo blanket compared to an OEM heatshield?
As the blanket is designed to keep the heat in, it will result in higher internal temperatures – have read that this can improve spool, but what effect does this have on oil temps and longevity of seals etc? Running a standard TMIC so reducing the temps around the intercooler would seem to be a good idea, but don’t want to shorten the life of the turbo… Anyone have any mid- or long-term experience of using a blanket? Cheers  |
i've wonderd the same thing too.
the heat sheild seems to be designed to direct air over the turbo to cool it n the blurb i have read on turbo blankets says that a blanket means the turbo cools down slower which reduces the risk of fractures. dunno how true it is though |
You only wrap the exhaust housing
