El Capitan B&W

I watched a documentary that I recorded over Christmas about the famous photographer Ansel Adams. It was a fascinating program and highlighted not only what a fantastic photographer (especially for his time) but what a fantastic place Yosemite is.

Seeing all the places I visited and photographed in my 2 days there in all their beauty, allied to someone who really knew Yosemite and loved it was really inspiring.

Listening to his techniques for B&W landscapes, including the use of a red filter to darken the sky really got me going. To the point I have promised myself that at some point in my life, I will go back there and have a dedicated photographic trip, instead of taking what are little more than holiday snaps as was the case last time, which is understandable when you have 2 days in a place like this and also have the good lady wife with you, there's only so much you can do :wife:

Any how, I had a tinker with my El Capitan shot and tried to follow some the the rules that Adams talked about. The only thing I didn't do was add any grain to the shot in an attempt to make it look more "filmy"

So this is the original start image:

And now the Black & White conversion. I love the tones and texture that the B&W conversion gives

Cheers chaps.

I might have a bit of a go at planning for B&W shots more this year, you do have to see it differently I think, but it's just a case of working out the shadows and highlights that bit more and metering properly.

Cheers mate.

It's the tones & textures that does it for me. You have to think about it a bit more too and hope that the image gives you what it really looked like.

Nice fella!

Why are you not framing these pics up and selling them in a nice arty gallery type shop down the coast or near your village? £££££

It's all on the cards, very soon indeed! I'm looking into various wide format machines.
