Blonde question
My shocks are meant to be getting done this Friday ready in time for the sumo meet. Cause I can't turn up with it knocking. What I'm stuck on is my mechanic has asked me for a part number. I've looked but couldn't see a sausage?? Will these be generic? It's a my51 bug wrx. Any help would be a god send :)

KYB catalogue is here (19mb). http://www.kyb-europe.com/pdf/KYB_Catalog_2012.pdf Subaru is page 257.
Part numbers for Bugeye WRX: Standard Excel-G shock Front Left: 334305 Front Right: 334304 Rear Left: 334307 Rear Right: 334306 Uprated Ultra-SR shocks Front Left: 324027 Front Right: 324026 Rear Left: 324029 Rear Right: 324028 Please check the catalogue tho, i've just copied the part numbers out and take no responsibility for typos  Then go here to buy if you need to get them yourself: http://camskill.co.uk/m32b0s0p0/Kaya..._Product_Range (phone them for a bundle price if you're getting all 4) Looking at about £80 a shock for the standard Excel-G, £100 a shock for Ultra SR. When i was looking I asked Gatwick Subaru for a price, was a tad more ;) I guess you're mechanic will source any patent part from the local auto factors, I decided to buy the parts i wanted then just pay for fitting. Means you can add springs as well, make it handle better  |
Steve_ppp.
You sir is a star :) :) :) |
No problem :)

Spoke to te mechanic. And what he has found so far are some
kyber super shocks. Anyone know of these? |
I would recommend you go with the KYB's that Steve has suggested, if on a budget.
KYB actually manufacture the standard shocks for Subaru. The knocking is caused by the angle of the shock (it's not vertical), which causes the insert to wear un-evenly and also the grease going hard within it. |
Panic over. My mechanic can't spell. I'm getting kyb ultra sr. Bit of luck these will be better. But it's costing £400 all in and that's just for the rears. Sound about right?
|
The part are 100 each so you're paying another 100 to have each shock fitted, bit much for me!
Trying to think what it cost when Brent @ SMD fitted mine with new springs, think I paid 180 for all 4. Remember you'll need to get the geo done afterwards too so it might be worth finding somewhere that can do both. |

Got my car back and I've only just managed to wipe off the KY gel.
Admitedly the car is 1000 times better :) I've got the front coming Tuesday. So I'll have kyb ultra sr on every corner. (they ain't fitting this time!!! ) I want to get some springs too. Can I lower slightly on these or is it not advisable. |
You can lower without any problems on the KYB shocks - but that means taking the rears back off again!
|
Have you thought about coilovers?? BC are a great brand and for the amount you're paying it wouldn't be an awful lot more. Sumo should be able to supply, fit and geo them for a good price too and you can lower and raise it without having to buy the springs. Plus you have the advantage of extra adjustablity.
