Majorscooby's home wheel refurb
Decided a little while ago that my speedline alloys needed a little tart up as they were looking a little tired but thought id do it at home and give it a bash after reading silversurfers first thread on the same type of job a while back.
Nice touch up job from the previous owner, NOT! http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/9295/sany0001se.jpg Thanks to the good old winter road salt http://img190.imageshack.us/img190/8850/sany0002km.jpg Original look http://img713.imageshack.us/img713/4030/sany0004c.jpg A blooming good wash up was needed http://img441.imageshack.us/img441/7608/sany0006l.jpg http://img191.imageshack.us/img191/9978/sany0008xc.jpg Damaged quite bad and didn't think i could make this good. http://img560.imageshack.us/img560/3143/sany0011yh.jpg http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/1079/sany0012ws.jpg http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/4044/sany0010ah.jpg A nice rub down with some 240, 400 and 600 grade wet and dry and plenty of wipes over after with some babywipes, a tip that was given too me from silversufer! blooming good too, gets up all the gritty bits. http://img441.imageshack.us/img441/3058/sany0013h.jpg Next a mask up with some very cheap and useful playing cards. http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/6453/sany0014da.jpg http://img718.imageshack.us/img718/5191/sany0015xe.jpg http://img833.imageshack.us/img833/5651/sany0016z.jpg I used Acid #8 etch primer before the alloy paint. Of course Painting the rear of the wheel first so as no over spray from painting the rear last comes through on to the front. sorry if that was confusing. :? http://img51.imageshack.us/img51/9910/sany0017tu.jpg http://img267.imageshack.us/img267/3676/sany0018r.jpg http://img829.imageshack.us/img829/96/sany0019h.jpg Next the satin black paint, Purchased from halfrauds and is actually labelled as stealth black alloy paint. http://img826.imageshack.us/img826/1953/sany0020a.jpg I actually quite liked this look but its a bit lairy! Wished i had a spinning device or whats know as a dolly to get an even blend and an identical look on each spoke. http://img703.imageshack.us/img703/5633/sany0021t.jpg http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/6114/sany0022e.jpg And as it stands this eve, STI badges turned up today and im very pleased with how its turned out from just using various grades of wet and dry and a few rattle cans. 1 down 3 to go over the next few days. Don't think ill lacquer them as im quite pleased with the look and don't want to cock it up,plus it states the paint is chip resistant but time will tell. may put some wheel wax on em to stop the ****e attacking them. No pics of them on the scoob as yet as i have only just ordered the black wheel nuts and don't want any damage or the grotty ones anywhere near the fresh paint. http://img849.imageshack.us/img849/7348/sany0023b.jpg |
Looking very good mate well done. :EVO:
|
looking good m8, takes ages from start to finish, must be happy with them, the old saying goes the prep is only as good as your paint! nice job bubby, did you spray them in your house? is so thats so rock and roll. lol:worthy:
|
Crackin job mate, very clever with the cards .
Dying to see them on the car |
Look great Rich, love the idea with the playing cards, may steal that one from ya !!!!
You may want to consider the laquer as it will give extra protection against chipping and make cleaning a whole lot easier, especially the rear. Top Job............ |
Wheels look really good i also like the card trick
ive spent ages masking up before |
great job mate, but i think they'll need lacquer too, can't see them lasting too long with wheel cleaners etc otherwise.
but they look good :ok: |
look very nice indeed mate :10:
|
Thanks all, very pleased and just want the weekend to come so i can get on with the others. Just waiting at the window like a little kid for the delivery man who's got me nuts:kicknuts:so i can get it back on the car!!

If you do the card trick just make sure you over lap them slightly, So easy to clean up once the paint has dried and re-usable too. I suppose you could even pop them round the wheel whilst its still on the car for touch up's here and there! With no wind about obviously!!! Pics to follow of them on the car at the weekend hopfully. |
Good job:10:
they look very gooooooooood  |
good job mate!!! :yeah: looking very smart!!
its the laquering that always ruins it for me aswell lol!!:getmecoat: |
Looks good mate can't wait to see them on the car
|
Brilliant resourcefullness from a Squadroneer!! Playing cards nicked from the Officer's Mess no doubt!!
:SMBLU::SUBARMAN: |
Nice one Rich, looking very nice indeed.
I love that card idea, I think many people will use that one :ok: As said though, probably needs a lacquer too  |
[QUOTE=Crowman;126185]Crackin job mate, very clever with the cards .
+1 What a great idea using the cards.:worthy: |
looks a top job mate and as others have said the playing cards are a great idea
|
top job,looks spot on:10:
|
nice one :)
|
Looks fantastic mate. Thats the colour I plan to do mine in the summer. Know exactly what you mean with the laquer. When I painted my old STi alloys I prefered them before we laquered them, but its all down to protection I guess.
|
Looks great and I will be borrowing the cards trick when I do Sians Rims.
|
Can't believe the amount if time I wasted in the past masking tyres! Cards for me from now on. Fantastic idea :agreed:
|
......
|
great job Rich look forward to seeing the end result
|
Thanks all for the comments, Three more to go.
The playing card mask up is so easy to do and clear up. wouldnt do it any other way from now on. And yes the playing cards were pinched from the squadron mess's Ginger beer serving bar, i promise to put them back. :SMBLU: I think i may lacquer them but not until i find a good satin one. Black nuts came through the post so tomo morn the first one will be back on the car and pics will be put up. :yeah: |
you have done a great job there and the idea of using playing cards is genius :10:
|
Come on Rich , pull ya finger out, want to see them on the car
|
Before
http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/8549/sany0165yo.jpg After, Ignore the wheel nuts, Scooby parts sent through the wrong thread size! Slightly Pissed off!!!!!!!! http://img811.imageshack.us/img811/2144/sany0025a.jpg Car just needs lowering now with some springs. |
Sweet mate, have you two done , any pic of whole car
|
Good job but personally I think they are too dark for that colour car
This is what it looks like with a lighter colour http://i1063.photobucket.com/albums/...3/d11f9df3.jpg http://i1063.photobucket.com/albums/...3/a48e9351.jpg |
Oh Greig , no you've done it , lol
I like them, but would prefer them Matt or satin |
Its only a cheap tart up till i can lay my hands on spare funds for some new rims in the summer. Would of had them now but germany trip has taken priority. I would of liked them to stay satin too but finding the lacquer was hard ,so gloss it was. White looks cool but not sure in my style of wheel.
Maybe once they have been on the car a few months and the shine has eased of a tad with hot brake dust and road grit pushed in to them they may look better. Plus I think once there all on and the scoob is lowered im sure it will ten times better. Any who im pleased so far even if it is a bit of an arse ache preping and that and im slowly making the scoob my own. Slowly being the main word. ;-) |
Good on ya mate, definately tidied it right up.
Not long until Germany , can't fookin wait |
i think your wheels look spot on MAJORSCOOBY and a good card trick
|
looks a good job mate
not sure if black nuts will look lost in them, the silver nuts give the centre of the wheel so definition for me.... |
