Smell of petrol help

Hi iv noticed a really strong smell of petrol when i put my foot but after backing off the smell slowly goes away any ideas what thisw might be

Slight fuel leak I'd say!

When on boost the pressure in your fuel lines increase, probably enough for a pipe to start weeping somewhere. Off boost the fuel pressure is less, so it seals again.

Ok, i have just changed the gearbox poss i may of disturbed something ??

the engine tips back a bit when you change the box and can pull the tubes off the carbon filter (Black cylinder near ABS block front right of car). that can give a petrol smell some times

Ill check that out

I checked the carbon filter all the pipes are on fine,

Had a look around but cant seem to see any signs of petrol leaking ??

I think its coming from the front, Can any one tell me where the best place to start loooking would be

i did have a very small leak once on one of the fuel lines around the filter area the leak was so small that the fuel was evaporating quickly so there was never any fuel pooled or any damp areas. maybe go round all the clips and double check they are tight, give them a little tweak n see if the smell goes

have you fitted or removed the fuel pump/tank cover recently ??

I change my fuel filter Friday, because of a smell of petrol that transpired to be the the pressed seal on the fuel filter, it had been weaping, but finally went totally pissing fuel badly. So worth a good look around the fuel filter, and if not changed for a while worth doing anyway.

Iv ordered a new fliter so will try that, i thought i could but not defo smell the fuel from the turbo side of the engine any ideas ???

a small leak there would evaporate quickly. plus it will be hot down there, real difficult place to inspect

Type-r-russ 03-04-2012 02:39 PM

Possible injector leak ??

andy-m 03-04-2012 02:53 PM

possibly.
only thing I can think of is to have a small torch (LED one will be bright enough), leave the engine running when its realy dark out and carefully look around with the torch. should be easier to spot any fine spray leaks like that, just be carefull of moving parts and hot parts. can't think of anything else that might help atm
