In their infinite wisdom, Nurburgring have put stretches of astro turf in worn areas at the side of the track. Probably will be fine (ish) in the dry, but lethal in the wet! :doh:

As Dale said tho if you was off there you was in trouble anyway

I imagine the grip is probably the same or better in the dry as the new surface will provide a smooth constant run-off, rather than bumpier dusty dirt.

But to not think about the wet grip is a bit daft on their part!

Lots of tracks have AstroTurf on warn bits... Just look at the MotoGP from the weekend

Grass or AstroTurf or painted curbs... The outcome will be the same in the wet

The astroturf is already used on various circuits:-

-SILVERSTONE (UNITED KINGDOM)

-ALCANIZ (SPAIN)
-NAVARRA (SPAIN)
-INTERLAGOS (BRAZIL)
-ABU DHABI (UAE)

and is fully FIA approved for use.

If its installed correctly, there should be no problem with it. The astroturf will actualy drain/dry better than normal grass and the matting should prevent rutting by having better displacement of weight.

Surely keeping the car on track during the wet is more of a concern than the parts that are not on the tarmac?

My gardens got astroturf and is already dry, following this mornings rain:nod: next doors grass is still soggy!!!

Best keep it on the black stuff ;)
