Dv Delete on a MD321V running approx 500
In my persuit to tame the beast, I'm now contemplating deleting/blanking off my DV. I'm running mafless and approx 1.7bar held on a MD321V. Fast road only only.
Dont want to lunch the turbo so Bad idea ?. Or OK. ?. If OK will I get some nice wastegate chatter :D instead of Pssssssssssssst. ? Cheers |
I ran my MD-H MD-T and MD-V without a dump valve
|
Take it off

Fantastic, thanks guys - I know they are a Marmite thing, but personally I hate them and only been sticking with it through fear I had to, so great news, and a quick fix if I can find the right sized plug.

Yep fine to remove
|
As above will be fine without the DV,running without few months

Is there a set of turbo's / a set up that you can have to run DV delete?
Cant find anything anywhere apart from people doing the whole "Panic, it will blow your tubro up, argle fargle.." |

On VF i wouldn't run DV delete, just from one reason,VF range is hard to rebuild and they're more prone to blown Hope this help Jura |
There's actually no real advantage to blanking off unless your valve leaks as far as I'm aware. In fact you may suffer compressor stall leading to slower spool after gear changes.
|
DV Delete done today, hacksawed off one of the sockets from an old spider wrench and used that as the bung. Now got lots of Thhhrrrrwwwwwdddd rather than Pssssssssttt. :)
Has to be plasibo affect but felt slightly slower, and boost didn't seem to be pulling quite as much, But then it was a warm day, and first time in a long time I have given it a proper spanking for a fairly long period of time...... Its been Ring checked as best I can :D Much better but now a different noise at similar levels at similar break points. Will run with it for the ring and see how it goes :D |

Only remove the Dump valve if you are running a 360 roller bearing turbo, I would not remove it otherwise guys! There is too much stress for thrust bearings to survive, I've removed many dump valves depending on application.
|
When I took my TD05/20g off to be sent away for a billet conversion I had so much play in the shaft the wheel had started eating into the cover. It was brand new and had done one sprint season running without a dump valve. When new turbo was put back on I used a dump valve for another full sprint season. I have just sold it and it had no play in shaft at all.
|
I'd say a fault then Justin.... Genars 20g was on for over a year without a dump valve and when he sold it there was no play.... That was a Andy F one
I've been d/v less for 4 plus years and not one of my turbo's had any problems when removed and all are still working fine on others cars ;) |
Mine were Andy F ones too, but I suppose its misleading to say brand new, the first one was my oe tdo5 converted, so hot side was very old. Not sure if bearings are replaced as part of the conversion, but the thrust was shot when inspected for the billet conversion
