Leon FR - Another Oil Burner Convert
Picked up Saturday : SEAT Leon FR TDi PD170, 170BHP, 258ft-lb torque.
So the perfect tool for ferrying the family around, with still enough punch to keep me happy. Very pleased with it so far and averaged 45mpg on a quick run over to Hailsham and back. Which isn't bad considering they are 'B' roads. Just had to pop it's snowfoam cherry, as it was dry yesterday. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...113_114836.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...113_114901.jpg Thought I'd used to much hot water for a minute and the car had shrunk...... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...105_143129.jpg Then realised that was the wife's car (bought the week before, SEAT have done well out of us) All dry....... It won't get a polish just yet as it has just been done by dealer's (not quite to my standard, but good enough considering current weather conditions) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...113_125635.jpg |
Don't you just love dealer servicing and there passion for spray grease......looks like the technician got a little over exited.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...113_132107.jpg I spend alot of effort making sure all the door shuts are clean. All cleaned up with baby wipes now though and I will be asking them NOT to do this on the next service. |
Nice Scott. The modern diesels are very good. I have been surprised at just how good the golf is, even though that is just the 140 bhp. Shame the handling doesn't match!.
|
nice one...looks exactly like the wifes old one and year as well....just checking the reg now:???:
|
Oh!!!! and the SEAT boys and tuners on http://www.seatcupra.net/ have been alot more helpful then those who I sought info about the Audi on http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/.
There's alot to be said about enjoying a car, if the forums are there to support you. |
Nice, but then I also liked the Audi you had as a second sensible family motor. And for looks more than badge I would have a golf GTI TDi over the Leon. That said I prefer the Leon over the Audi A3 in terms of looks.
Whatever floats your boat the 170tdi engines are superb. Guy has a A3 Tdi170 sport and consistently suprises me. Remap and 200bhp and 300ftlb makes an already nice drive even better. |

First attempt at detailing with DA polisher
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...psc92c2c02.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...ps3e4be0ef.jpg Ended up doing all drivers side before daylight ran out. |
Is the top one the afters? You may need practice if it is! ;)
Looks good Scott - what did you use? I've been using the megs microfiber system and have been really impressed. |

Mines the DA-6 Mezerna kit from http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/machin.../prod_522.html Easy enough to use with caution working your way from fine to course grades of polish / compound until you get the marks out then step back through the grades to a fine polish then wax or seal. |
Wowzers, top job there fella. Looks amazing! Need to look into a decent polisher myself for in the spring.
|
I keep looking at the kestrel DAS 6 kits from polished bliss.

Grabbed another couple of hours on the FR today, and detailed the bonnet and front N/S wing.
The Halgogen gun is a great tool and really shows up the marks. After using it today, it's a must to ensure you get good results. Big thanks to Ron for the tips on bulding one, for less than £20, out of a few bits from B&Q. Paintwork didn't look too bad and clearly been wax'd by the SEAT dealer before I collected. Clay bar didn't lift anything much off the paint before setting the DA into action. Not so good though when you shine the halogen on it....... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...psffc2d95f.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...ps8754a872.jpg Very pleased with the results, and the Scoob should be a doddle after refining my technique on a black car ;) : http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...psafd89099.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...psc5adf3fa.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...pse24b7cf6.jpg N/S wing also looked pretty good until Halogen was used, and highlighted this scratch plus another further forward. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...ps13c7cc9f.jpg A few minutes later : http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...ps1ac14392.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...ps6e65ebc7.jpg |
Really fantastic job Scott. We should have a SES detailing day!

Just the bumpers and roof to go now........ http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...ps851f8457.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...ps3247aae2.jpg Menzerna White Pad & Menzerna FG500 Menzerna Yellow Pad & Menzerna PF2500 Menzerna Yellow Pad & Menzerna SF4000 Menzerna Black Buffing Pad & Poor Boys Black Hole Gaze Hand applied 2nd coat of Black Hole Glaze If dry tomorrow it will get a coat of Prima - Banana Gloss liquid Wax http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...ps00f1ba44.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...ps6b06fc9c.jpg |
Fancy practicing on my bonnet :-)
|
Came up well :polish:
|
Fugly got a clean yesterday as it hadn't been touched since the last meeting. My cleaning products have years of of research behind them unlike some newbie stuff above.

Just a little photo opportunity seized whilst on hol's, show's off the shine quite well.
I spotted this from our holiday cottage actually before I saw the real sunset. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...ps3ea0ae6b.jpg |
That's lovely :more:
Have you had it on the RR yet....? I can almost guarantee it'll be putting out more than 170 ! |
:drive:
|
Nice Edit Nige.
But picking up on your post...I used to drink more but don't seem to have a drinking partner anymore ;).....he gets invited but doesn't show up  |

BTTC Aero Kit and 'ToyoSports' stainless dual exit exhaust went on last week
AMD DPF delete yesterday Trial fit of RS4 Rep's today (19x8 ET42), 235/35 Falken FK453 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...psc39128b4.jpg New OE or Mintex grooved disks/pads next (maybe in the short-term just clean up the current hubs). Wheels will also get a better coat of paint/lacquer as the finish isn't quite up to my anal standards. Very pleased with how it looks on the new alloys. It looked very 'underwheeled' on the standard silver 18's when the bodykit went on. Another Big Tick for the 'modified' but still factory look.....just how I like em' ;) Will post up better pics once wheels are permanently on and the sun is shinning. |
looks smart with those wheels Scott, i like alot. Bet it pulls like a train..
|
woooow very nicely done well impressed with the out come
:10: |
Looks very nice Scott
|
Looks much better with the skirts and wheels mate. Very tidy daily driver

That's the site I was looking at last week. Did the bumper come complete with the grilles etc?
|
Quote:
I had it delivered to the bodyshop they use, as they kit up a few for the forecourt. The only extra bits I supplied were new number plates, Cupra front grill (deletes the chrome surround) and Dual exit exhaust (the bumper is marked on the inside for cuts to suite standard exit, centre exit or dual exit) I saw it pre-painted and it's a good quality bit of kit. Certainly convinced me it's not worth spending £695 on the Ebay fibreglass copies. Twin-Exit exhaust was from here : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SEAT-LEON-...#ht_920wt_1018 It did need a tweak of the brackets to get it to sit closer to the body, but the brackets are removable, so easy enough to adjust. If you end up going for the kit call them and speak to Carl or Steve who man the service desk and run the website. |
Excellent, think I've found my Christmas present to myself, lol
Cheers |
Looks great - just needs a vtec engine now :ok:
|
Very nice Scott. Think you have the best of both worlds there.:ok:
|
1st and 2nd gear are pretty pointless now trying to put down 355lb/ft at 2700rpm , even in the dry.
It's all over pretty quick though and a very different driving style is required compared to the Subaru. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...pse33f1e01.jpg |
Wow, very impressive :ok:
|
Thats certainly a bundle more torque after the map, must seen a very fast road car now. Crazy when 3rd gear upwards the diesel pulls harder than the scoob!
Are 1st and 2nd gear not torque-limited on these then? On the mondeo it seems i get about 50% of peak torque to protect the gearbox, it only opens fully up in 3rd. |

1st is over too quickly to tell and besides it just flashes the traction control light which crudely cuts drive. |
19" Alloy's and new Pagid 312mm Disks/Pads (rears to be done next week as needed a caliper rewind tool)

Done the rear disks/pads today. Might take the 'L E O N' badge off the back so that it looks cleaner and I can DA/Detail polish the tailgate better. |

That's some bonkers front wheel torque :)
|
SOLD
I'm sure the new 'temporary' owner will be along soon in the For Sale Section. But only after it's 'ticked his box' and run out of fuel. Being a Diesel it may take a little longer than usual. |
lol, gone to Rob then?
