Nightmare of a couple of weeks!!

Right the story starts, about three weeks ago i was driving back from Crawley and i thought id give the car a bit of blast, when changing into 5th at about 5000 rpm a nice clunk came from the gearbox!! as my underwear started to fill with a warm substance I drove straight to SMD where brent diagnosed it to be the fifth syncro had failed.

As my warranty still had 1 month left and the car has only done 20k i thought it would be a straight forward case and even Brent said i should have the car back within 5 days! little did we know....

When Brent first phoned the warranty company they thought that we was pulling a fast one as the car has only done 20k, so they wanted to send an engineer to the gearbox specialist, where the gearbox was at and still is at....

The engineer finally turned up last Friday, took one look at the gearbox and said that's wear and tear and they wouldn't cover the nearly 2k cost.

How can a gearbox syncro failing at 20k be wear and tear and not mechanical failure??

The same day i phone Performance car company (where i brought the car from) and before i could lay into them, they said they had been following the claim and were outraged about what the warranty company said and one way or another they would sort it out!!

So hopefully tomorrow i should find out if PCC has sorted it and i should have my car back by the end of the week.

Sorry for rambling on guys its just been so frustrating..

asperformance 10-02-2013 05:19 PM

was this for a new box or repair to the old one???

impreza27 10-02-2013 05:20 PM

sorry to hear that mate hope you get it all sorted out and get your car back soon :x:-(

scoobycoops 10-02-2013 05:23 PM

What a nightmare... Good luck. keep us posted

BIG"E" 10-02-2013 05:26 PM

Fingers crossed they get things sorted for you.

Changing the syncro is not an easy job though as the boxes have been re vamped and more parts than normal may be required.

Good Luck..

SamSTI 10-02-2013 05:29 PM

Cheers for the comments guys and i cant wait to get the car back

bonner 10-02-2013 05:29 PM

aren't they just mate. I will hopefully find out tomorrow what the score is and then take it from there.

bonner 10-02-2013 05:42 PM

hope all goes well matey!!

Hongkongfooi 10-02-2013 05:51 PM

Not good times, however even in 20k miles it could have been damaged by a previous owner? The warranty company should deal with it whatever though

Steve_PPP 10-02-2013 05:56 PM

Hopefully they cough up quickly in the end. Some of the warranty companies are a nightmare though for sure, especially on this type of car where they'll claim its down to abuse/launches or track driving.

They're certainly happy to keep selling policies on these type of cars though!

cheers Tim, I agree no one knows how the previous owners drove the car (Launch starts, Track days etc), you can only go by the service history.

Hopefully the warranty company are just trying to pull a fast one and hopefully will be sorted tomorrow.

Cheers Steve, the funniest thing is after they said no to claim, the same day I got a phone call asking me if I wanted to extend my cover..... all I can say is I'm glad I was working at the time lol

When did you have a problem with an insurance company paying out?

ScoobyStu 10-02-2013 06:52 PM

Hope you get it sorted mate.

not me personally bud 1 of my mates is trying to claim right now on his scoob that a coach had driven down the side of while it was parked up! theve made every excuse why not to pay out ie damage before event and now looks like its got to goto court, all the evidence is there pictures taken of both the wrx and coach and still wont pay out even tho the bloke driving the coach denies it a photo had been taken of the black coach with a dent and his silver paint onit, if he had been paid out he would be driving robs old classic

Moley_WRX 10-02-2013 07:21 PM

So the 3rd party is not admitting liability, and an indepedant assessor (who doesn't work for either company) who would have inspected the car is causing issues saying he doesn't think the damage was caused by the coach.

The problem in that case is the coach driver, and the independant assessor.

Yet the insurers are the ones to blame?

I know i sound like i'm moaning, but in 13 years of working in insurance i've never seen a claim thrown out without a very good reason. (enless that just shows how good the companies we use are)

when you put it like that its more understanding!! you would have thought tho with the evidence given and obvious damage caused by coach his insurence would pay out then make a case against the coach driver?

And untill they got the money back from the coach company, assuming they ever manage to, your mate would have an open claim against him... making his insurance higher.

If the coach driver is saying it isn't his fault, and if there are no witnesses, it makes it very difficult to prove.

bonner 10-02-2013 07:47 PM

enough said!

SamSTI 11-02-2013 06:20 PM

Not much more has developed today! still in the hands of the company i brought the car from, I did found out the quote today for the repair, which surprisingly was about half what i originally estimated (estimated from quotes from other companies).

I did tell Brent this morning that as the the gearbox was out, it would be rude not to change the clutch as the labour is already done lol

SamSTI 14-02-2013 08:10 PM

Just an update, The company I brought the car from are doing there up most to get somewhere with the claim, so far we've had a good will gesture from the warranty company of £600 (half the quote amount), a bit of a **** take if you ask me but its a start.
Hopefully with a bit more pushing i should get the full amount by the end of the week.

On a brighter note i should be getting the car back tomorrow

GB270Adam 14-02-2013 09:11 PM

Bet its been like having your right arm cut off mate .

Hope the warranty company pays up ASAP.

bonner 14-02-2013 09:35 PM

hope all goes well bud!

munk 15-02-2013 07:18 AM

only just seen this thread sam.. thats bad news gutted for you, and hope you get all the claim sorted, i think id have been inclinded to return the car to pcc and get a refund. i know accidents(strange things) do happen but with that sort of millege id be a little concerned and start to question how your car has been treated by previous..!? only my opinion thou mate:cuckoo:

SamSTI 15-02-2013 08:49 AM

Thanks munk, that thought has crossed my mind but i do love the car. The car itself is in excellent condition with a full service history so i do reckon it has been well looked after but obviously you can never tell how the previous owner drove the car.

Hopefully all will be sorted today.

bigemp 15-02-2013 06:18 PM
