Photoshop help!
 

My brother in law had his car hit whilst he was in a shop and the bastard that did it decided to just drive off!

The shop pulled a pic from the CCTV but the numberplate is hard to make out. I know there is only so much that can be done with such a poor photo as the starting point, but can any of you photoshop wizzards have a go at making the plate out?

Yeah, I know it's a long shot and that's being overly optimistic. Thought it was at least worth asking.

surely the police can match that to a possible list of cars and then check which ones might be in the area eg use of ANPR etc. They will probably be interested as driving off without reporting is an offense.

Their advice was simply 'contact your insurer' apparently. Helpful!

I tried putting some numbers into a reg to car database to try and figure out if my combination came up with Land Rover, but most of the numbers I tried aren't registered,

looks to me (maybe my brain is filling in the gaps) to be something like WU06TAZ or something similar, can the cctv get better parts of the plates in different frames, can they give you a copy of the footage at all on CD/DVD?

Yeah, I'm trying similar things at the moment. I have made a negative version of the image which has made things a little clearer (although still not clear enough to see) and I'm pretty certain its starts VU05. This would make sense as they are based in Worcester and VU happens to be the local registration.

Think I've got it and DVLA lookup looks good. Fingers crossed the police will be a bit more interested this time round.

Unfortunately you may find it hard to prove it was the car you think it was. If they deny it you won't have anything to present as evidence.

Hope the ****er caves under questioning though.

was it near the town center? as surly there would be cctv everywhere? if so would of been recorded in a few places! also might pay to give a few local bodyshops a ring to see if a landi has been booked in or get a call if one arrives! good luck i hope you catch them!!

Sadly it was a garage in the sticks so no other cctv as far as we know.

Apparently the police were slightly more helpful on the second call. Ultimately its contingent on the person (assuming we have the right one) admitting fault and driving away from an accident which of course is far from guaranteed. All remains to be seen at this point
