Fuel economy question, yawn

I'm actually yawning while I type, sorry it it puts you to sleep but it's a valid one (I think)

I've never filled up my Subaru, it's a 96 JDM STI, how big is the tank?

I am actually quite an economical driver, My C2GT gets 47mph, I drove from Guildford to Crewe on 1 tank of fuel in my FD3S RX7 and I drove the Subaru from Brighton to Guildford and back on less than £20.

I have an exhaust, de-cat, filter and FMIC, the rest I think is standard.

My reason for asking is I'm already planning my return to Chamonix (I've not left yet) and thinking a weeks holiday down here during the summer, drive down with the Subaru and enjoy some mountain passes and tunnel runs :norty:

It's just under 700 miles door to door.

Fuel tank is 55 litres i think on my newage, assume classic is the same?

I get about 250 miles on a nice steady cruise from a full tank (about 60 quid).

Doobs Scoob 02-05-2013 01:31 PM

Yep about the same.. I get 240 miles out of mine (£60)

andy-m 02-05-2013 01:38 PM

classic tank is 50ltrs i think. if there is no traffic and you dont go over 70mph, you could get 28mpg. if there's traffic or you do over 70-mph and hard accelleration etc, then 22mpg.

on long distance runs, I usualy fill up between 220 and 250 miles. i never let it go below quarter of a tank in case i suck up some sludge or other junk in the tank

FYI, I did london to SW ireland catching the ferry from south wales and made 27mpg with 2 adults, a 13yr old, newborn twins and so much luggage in the back of my wagon that I couldnt see out of the back window. and that was on a standard 95 RA ECU in my wagon, sticking to the speed limit and driving like I wasn't in a scoob lol

I'm getting roughly 200 miles per tank, but I don't really use mine for long trips, although going to Japfest next weekend so will see how much more I can get out of a tank. Mine seems to drink the fuel if I go 60mph, feel like I should drive Miss daisy sometimes

Bolesroor 02-05-2013 02:17 PM

A recent run to Melton Mowbray from kent and back with mixed driving e.g. motorway/country lanes I got 26 mpg.

RandyWanger 02-05-2013 02:25 PM

Ah not too bad than, should be able to make it on 4 tanks easy then! They time you through the toll roads (like average speed cameras) and the Gendarm pick you up, well, they do down this way. So won't be hooning it down.

Scooby_Greg 02-05-2013 02:36 PM

That's the one good thing with the hatch - it may look hideous but you can get 32mpg out of it in 'I' mode!

ScoobyStu 02-05-2013 06:58 PM

I get approximately 200 miles before I refill. Usually put about 45-50 litres in at a time. Find I get 130 miles off half a tank, then 70 off the next half for some reason, haha.

Jason73 02-05-2013 07:57 PM

I get about 250 driving about 70mph and not giving it the beans

MIDLIFE 02-05-2013 09:04 PM

Newage 55litre/12.1 gallons appx £75 mixed driving 270 miles = 22mpg.

I agree with that just filled my tank with v-power nitro+ £58 well spent so I think it will cost £80 to fill from empty on a classic.
