lost boost?

hi all been working local and not used the motor properly for a good month, got back from mexico and battery was almost dead luckily she fired up, thought Id give it a good blast once wam and boost was only reaching 0.5 bar! usually a notch under 1 bar of boost, I found it would reach higher a
near redline but this is not right, usally boost gauge will instanly show just under a bar when boosting, other than that it drives fine with no issues

Check all the boost hoses, the ones above/near can get brittle and split.

Restrictor pill?

555_Si 18-05-2013 10:38 PM

my actuator became sticky recently, went from 1 bar to .7 then finally to nothing.

Freed it up and it was back to normal, you can put a large syringe on the pipe going to it and see if it moves.

Yep......that'll be the problem if the hoses have been replaced for silicon.
The short hose from the turbo outlet nipple to the t-piece has a brass restrictor inside.
If you have swapped this for silicon and not fitted the restrictor then the actuator will be seeing the incorrect level of boost and opening too early.

Hi all how can i reset my ecu without causing any issues with reprogramming the key? cheers

Anger 24-05-2013 11:07 AM

Should be fine

bonner 24-05-2013 11:34 AM

Is it just the case of disconecting the battery?

SpecB 24-05-2013 12:07 PM

Not sure exactly but it involves the test plugs under the dash I think

bonner 24-05-2013 12:44 PM

I did read about these plugs but i assumed it was classic only, also pushing the brake pedal but didnt read on for that reason, just curious as im testing the actuator tomorrow and if it works fine then plan b the reset, if that dont work il look at changing turbo pipes, cheers

Thanks for your input guys! battary was seriously low so just took out for a blast on the bypass to find my boost has magicly come back?.strange! could have been down to what si suggested a sticky actuator due to notvbeing used for a month or so, hopfully all sorted still goin to give a good nose over thanks again!
