Go Karting

Anyone fancy a go karting session before the bad weather sets in?

I've done Sandown recently which is a fantastic circuit, but would be open to suggestions if ones has any ideas.

Would be good to get a few of us together for a race or arrive and drive session.

This is an excellent circuit http://www.buckmore.co.uk/ which I have done an endurance race on with my dad and we came 2nd overall and got a trophy which I am very proud off :yeah: lol one of the best karting circuits around in my opinion :ok:

drakesnow 30-08-2013 04:02 AM

Definitely up for some karting!

Steve_PPP 30-08-2013 08:14 AM

I'd be up for that, used to do it quite a bit when i was at Uni but that was about 10 years ago!

Bytes 30-08-2013 10:00 AM

Count me in :)

Moley_WRX 30-08-2013 10:06 AM

These would probably be the places to choose from:

http://www.daytona.co.uk/venues/sandown/index.php - excellent circuit
http://www.buckmore.co.uk/ - never been but supposed to be brilliant
http://www.qleisure.co.uk/ - never been there so have no idea what it's like

Sti mayhew 30-08-2013 10:35 AM

My girlfriends ex used to do the 24 hour le mon karting years back and said its fantastic at buckmore. I'm going there on October the 5th so if you don't go by then I'll let you know what it's like!

Moley_WRX 30-08-2013 10:40 AM

I'm popping up to Sandown on Monday evening if anyone fancies coming up for a practice?

(7.30 session on the faster DMAX karts)

jonnyricer5 30-08-2013 01:17 PM

drakesnow 30-08-2013 05:31 PM

drakesnow 03-10-2013 04:17 PM

This still needs to happen!

Sti mayhew 06-10-2013 07:30 PM

Well we went to buckmore park karting last night for my mates stag do. There was 12 of us, very well organised and run place. Excellent track we done a 5 minute practice/qualifying which put me on pole and then I went on to win the 30 minute race!! So an even better day for me, wouldn't hesitate about going back it was absolutely superb and the best track i've done so far, highly recommend.
Then 14 of us out to Maidstone for a night out, few good bars then on to there club 'wonderland' cheap drinks and not a bad club at all really i've been in a lot worse and it doesn't kick out till 3.30! Back to premiere inn at 4.30am by the time we demolished a kebab and chips. Great day and night out really really good. Premiere inn is by the canal aswel if you like that sort of thing.

drakesnow 07-10-2013 03:38 PM

Sounds ideal. We need to get some karting going on!! Would be a good bit of fun for jonny to practice his driving skills.

EXEVO3 07-10-2013 08:15 PM

id be up for abit of karting....iv done abit over the yrs....:drive:

Bibs_TLF 08-10-2013 11:15 AM

With Buckmore the organiser needs to pay in full up front. I've tried to organise events there but I'm not putting a load of my own dough down in case people can't turn up, cancel etc.

I much prefer the atmosphere and staff at http://www.bayfordkarting.co.uk in Sittingbourne. Really relaxed, decent karts and a fun, fast circuit plus everyone pays on the night. A fair amount cheaper than Buckmore too. I've organised I think 3-4 events there in the last 2 years and they've always been great fun.

2mins from my house....really good track...wide fast flowing and long lap(for karts)....

theres races there every weekend....

Moley_WRX 25-11-2015 11:00 PM

Anyone still fancy this?

Did the Crawley track last week and it's pretty good, they can organise an exclusive race if we get 8-12 people

That's a true racer. Getting the excuses in early!

Depending upon when this is I may be able to join. Nice and easy to get to as an after work thing.

Scooby Si 26-11-2015 06:22 PM

Are you aiming for the full track Gary (Fri/Sat/Sun Evenings I think)?? I'd be interested if you are...

Red Baron 26-11-2015 06:33 PM

If it's Monday to Thursday I'd be interested as I can go straight from work, finish at 12:30 on Fridays so it's a long afternoon to kill.

alfa male 26-11-2015 07:54 PM

The old man (Big 'E') got on the podium there in an endurance race! 20 years ago tho, when he was my weight!!!!! :hbags::oldman:
Great track.

Scott.T 26-11-2015 08:03 PM

Got the fastest lap of the night last time I was there. Even beating young skinny types with their own race suits and helmets :D:D:D:D
Was wanting to try the Brighton venue, as done Crawley 3 or 4 many times in several configurations.

Moley_WRX 26-11-2015 08:30 PM

What kind of dates would suit everyone?

I rang today and if we do a weekday evening it'll be either the upstairs or the downstairs circuit, it's luck of the draw which one apparently

Moley_WRX 26-11-2015 08:32 PM

Other option is getting a couple of teams together and do the endurance event. (Teams of 2-4 apparently)

Hongkongfooi 26-11-2015 08:43 PM

would be a laugh:ok:

oldskool 27-11-2015 06:15 AM

lakeside track is brilliant ,, and they do endurance races etc over two hours with up to four drivers per team or if you fancy an hour each teams of two :-)

Steve_PPP 27-11-2015 09:10 AM

I think Crawley is probably best location wise for most people as its central to the region. I know i wouldn't be able to get up to lakeside for an evening without knocking off work early.

Moley - any weekday evening should be fine for me.

scotty 27-11-2015 01:22 PM

Ive got a indoor kart track 5min from my house thats a bonus on another note there is a track just off the A2 bypass heading from canterbury towards M2 London .

subyea81 14-12-2015 09:49 AM

Is it possible to have the whole track (upstairs and downstairs? ) I may be interested when and approx cost?

Dale_ 28-01-2016 08:58 AM

Did this ever take off? I'd be really interested in coming :) an easy way to meet everyone aswell.... Sittingbourne sounds good?

drakesnow 28-01-2016 01:25 PM

I would love to do this, I recall quite a while ago we had tried to sort it with no avail.
Lakeside or Crawley or Sittingbourne all look cool.

Dale_ 28-01-2016 05:02 PM

Even if one person ends up booking it and holds everyone's money to pay? Whomever is the most known and trusted person to be going lol

Dale_ 01-02-2016 11:04 AM

Who is sorting this out before it snows? Lol

drakesnow 01-02-2016 06:49 PM

I wonder if anyone really wants to go?!

Moley_WRX 01-02-2016 10:21 PM

I'm definitely up for it. If we can't get numbers for an exclusive event does anyone fancy an evening season at Crawley?

Scooby Si 01-02-2016 10:40 PM

Season or session?? ;)

As mentioned before, would prefer the full track at Crawley but would be up for it either way.

Steve_PPP 02-02-2016 10:07 AM

Still interested.... :)

Seems you are the event organiser why don't we leave you in charge of it? ;) lol everyone can give you the deposits ect... Just pick a day and we'll have to stick to that day no matter what :) makes it a little better then?

Red Baron 02-02-2016 11:39 AM

Problem with booking this is that they need the full amount to book, trying to get that commitment from enough people can be a nightmare, you agree a date, it then takes 2 weeks to get the money through and then you've lost your date and not everyone can agree on a new one. Alternatively you take the risk and book at your own expense and then end up out of pocket as people then pull out before they've paid.

drakesnow 02-02-2016 12:50 PM

Is the best way to get exclusive?
And is that the only way to get the full track?
I am cool with that place or the other two mentioned.

Scooby Si 02-02-2016 06:17 PM

Fri/Sat/Sun evening are when they run the full 3 floor track at Crawley...

The Unlimited Karting on a Sunday is pretty good, you get a minimum of 5x 10min sessions spread across the evening. We could basically pick a session start time and everyone books their own place at £40 each.

Very much so.

A few years back I organised a go karting session on Surrey Scoobies.
There were 10+ "yeah I will definitely be up for it".
On the day 3 people turned up.

If I'd had paid for those 7 no-shows I wouldn't have been a happy chap.

Dale_ 03-02-2016 09:40 AM

I'm able to do any sunday, and looks like Crawley is the place we are going? Lol. So let's pick a date, book up and then who ever shows shows? Looks like it is the only way we are going to be able to do this, like Red Baron said :)

Yep, exactly this. Its a bit like the old chicken and the egg scenario. Can't book a date at the track without guaranteed numbers, but people won't commit without knowing the exact date.

If we were going to do something like this, I think we'd need to plan it well in advance to try and book a free date with the venue, then take cash up front to cover the booking. If people then drop out, its their loss - the organiser can't be left out of pocket.

By setting a date well in advance, hopefully the venue would have time to fill remaining spaces if we went back and said we had less people than we hoped?

Sounds like a plan, I recon we should get a little convoy up there, and we pay our money for the said date.... Who ever comes up to pay in advanced knows the dealio by then anyway? And they have payed there money :)
