blob wrx question

thinking of buying a wrx ppp 2005 that ive veiwed,
my main question is are these engines fairly strong?
just after my wrx dying hard yesterday im tad worried about this stock ppp version going pop on me to now.

any views on the wrx ppp guys, i know its 265bhp stock, and still shares the 5spd thats only really great up to 320bhp. is the engine still the same as turbo 2000's etc

nerves going a little as sitting here with one dead scoob.

Sorry to hear about your scoob.
What do you think was the cause ? Oil starvation/pick up issue or oil level/temp/viscocity causing a bearing to pick up ?

2005 PPP runs quite rich and 1.2bar peak dropping to 0.9bar at redline IIRC.

Engine/block is pretty much the same a late classic.
But they will run 350BHP and even upto 400 in some circumstance (I think CJ ran 400+ on a modified 18G).

I've mapped a few to 340-360 (ish) running 18G's or VF30's, STi pinks, STI top mount.

TBH you would be better getting an STi which is a much stonger unit and good for 400BHP. But then even a standard car can spin a bearing.

Scott, the oil was on max before i went out as checked in the pits, Temp gauge fine, even ran the heaters on hot a little to try take abit of heat out, I am pretty sure oil starvation or pick up issue can only really see it being that.

The ppp i viewed Scott was stock other than a Sti i/c and under-tray, but was pushing 1.4bar.
Really looked after car, and very nice with all its history and maintenance.
Im not looking to take it high in power at all, a Vf35,pinks and mapp taking it up to the 320bhp is more than enough for me, to be fair probably wont go that far, just fit a sports down pipe and remap.

would i be better of with this instead

1.4 bar is too high for ppp and also to high for the td04.

scooby doo 30-09-2013 02:46 PM

oh, thats not good. stock car with cat still in place odd making that much boost, what do you think to the bug?

drakesnow 30-09-2013 03:00 PM

The bug sti looks pretty good but of course go view first!

Definitely agree with not running 1.4 bar on a td04, my friend ran that on a highly tuned bugeye and the big end went ^ _ ^ !!

What sort of engine management were you running on your car that went pop yesterday?

scooby doo 30-09-2013 03:03 PM

bug sti having mot now, going up this evening, and z4 ecu yesterday

Mortster 30-09-2013 03:18 PM

Bug looks nice, and its the best colour.

Buts its advertised slightly wrong, its not a prodrive bug, its a bug sti with a prodrive pack.

Prodrive would have different Bumper and upper grill, and slightly different shape side skirts.

scooby doo 30-09-2013 03:36 PM

yea a bug sti type uk with ppp kit fitted i read that as, due to not having a prodrive bumper,

Hongkongfooi 30-09-2013 04:14 PM

Some on the p1 site have run over 400 on 5 speeds, just avoid launching it too often.

scooby doo 30-09-2013 04:37 PM

Im veiwing the bug sti later, just passed its mot, and the insurance is cheaper than a wrx, and my old wrx, happy days, lets hope the car is as good as it looks in the pics.
