Turbo fu***ng heat shield

Hi everyone I'm halfway doing my clutch on my bugeye, had no problems whatsoever until now, I've unbolted everything even under the car but the bolt at the back of the heat shield is rusted and rounded, I undone the top one no problem, the one on the side I had to cut of now the one on the back I can't get the grinder in, so I'm loosing my temper now and am about to just cut the fu****g thing of,do I actually need it on there! I know it could possibly cause heat soak but is there anyone that's running without there's. Thanks all.

Told u there a pain to get off there's always a few bolts that round off lol
I run mine without the heat shield and know a few others that do and have had no problems I ended up using a set of tin snips to cut mine off had 3 bolts that rounded off so had no choice

Domo2106 03-02-2014 02:36 PM

I'm pretty sure there are a few more bolts that attach the turbo heat shield to the cat heat shield too

Lol and you weren't wrong mate, ok that's good to know, of it comes then :). Yeah I saw some more bolts under the heat shield when I tried to bend it out the way but I'll tackle them when I get to them lol.I've been suprised at how easy the gearbox bolts came out though

Domo2106 03-02-2014 03:14 PM

If u get stuck let me know mate I can pop over

Danwrx 03-02-2014 03:48 PM

Ok mate nice one, really appriciate it, I'll let you know how I get on. Bet you can't wait to get yours back, not long now though

Domo2106 03-02-2014 04:06 PM

Was supposed to get it back today but they just called sayin it won't be ready until tomoz

555_Si 03-02-2014 05:46 PM

i got heat soak on mine as clutch and brake reservoir are just above, i stuck a turbo blanket on mine, and put some gold foil round brake and clutch cylinders and reservoirs and it hasnt been a problem even with track days.

Cheers si, I actually managed to get the gearbox bolt out without removing the shield, I'm hoping that's all that the shield needed to be taken of for? Gearbox ready to be separated now. Not bad, started at about 1pm and finished at 3, having to wait till Wednesday now as working all day tomorrow so didn't really want to separate the box from the engine and leave it for a day or so, so I chose to call it a day.

Not good then mate, hopefully when they've finished it'll be up to your standards and you'll be happy with it.

LOL, you don't fancy doing clutch and flywheel on mine do you,. was going to swap engine and do it, but I am having to decide future of my cars at moment as need to get mortgage soon and i am not allowed 5 cars anymore.

Cut it of but try to keep the top hat / turbo cover in reusable condition.
Cut this down so it is just the top cover, using the spot welded seam as a guide. Then refit it with just the 3 uppermost fixing.

Lol 5 cars, got to keep the scoobie mate, and was it you that had the Audi? If so keep that too lol. Honestly though if you need a hand doing yours mate when I've finished mine give me a shout I'll pop over and help, although this is my first ever clutch on an impreza and I'm doing it on my own on axel stands as my mate has let me down, it's not that difficult (yet) lol

Cheers mate, I've managed to save it by managing to get a socket in between the heat shields and undo the bolt.
