Blown pistons

Hey Folks,

It's been a while. I blew the Scoob engine a long time ago but have finally pulled it a part and now the trouble starts and I need help, please.

The piston below burnt through due to poor mixture but there is a possibility the a slither which is missing from a valve on the other bank/side/head flew around and scored and wedged in the bore trying to get it to seize up.

So i need help:
Can the bores be rebored/repaired or can the sleeves change out?
Which is best?
Can the valves be reseated and changed out or does the head need changing?
Which is best?
The bearing need changing on the big end so I assume the block must come apart. Is this the case?
Will it be cheaper to get a second hand engine and scrap this one? :deadhorse:

Thanks in advance....

If the head is salvageable it's got to be cheaper to source a second hand short engine, I guess it depends how much of the work you are going to do yourself and if you have plans for more mods and big power.

2nd hand engine surely is cheapest and sell the best bits from old engine:paranoid:

Buy sti 7/8/9 short block for around £800 fit your heads if good along with Cosworth head gaskets job done and will flow a reliable 400hp if future plans are that way

scoobycoops 18-02-2014 02:43 PM

No future mods planned... Except to getting running again....

And give it some love...

Start looking at some of the more reputable breakers where you may get some kind of warranty, you only need the block and heads as you can swap all your ancillaries from your old engine, cheaper to buy an engine private but may be pot luck unless you can hear it running before it's taken out of the car.

I'm looking at a JDM 2.0 to go in my car as a cheap get me running option.

It was up for £1500 but with the parts on if that I didnt need I could have recovered around £800 of that, plus they are stronger!
