Hey there!

Hi All,

Feel kind of a fraud at the moment as don't actually have my Scooby yet - however have registered and am soon to be a Scooby owner!

Have already agreed to purchase my 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX Sti Prodrive (bugeye) from chap at work, however have to wait few weeks till he collects his new car before I can get my hands on the scooby :-(

So once I have it - I'll be on here lots, hoping to meet new buddies, and become part of the furniture!

Cheers

Ryan

Welcome aboard

Guessing from all the posts in the Show n Shine section that you'll be keeping the new scoob nice and shiny :)

Hi 8-)

Steve - yeah I think it's safe to say if I can waste 7-8hrs detailing a crappy mondy, and washing it every week- it's fair to say I'll be keeping the Scooby pretty clean :-)

Hi and welcome well as you his boss maybe the price needs to be a bit lower as well/plus also you cant wait too long as redundancies could be on the cards as well:five:

Rdlangy1 25-03-2014 05:29 PM

Ha ha ha! Love that!!
The price is pretty good - it's mint - 58k with PPP, new clutch and all belts etc and done 7k in 11yrs he's had it - less than £5k ;-)

Although the pics look OK - the paint is very very flat!!! Needs a good claybar and def machine polish! Its slightly pitted around the scoop too.
There is a big scratch down the passenger side rear bumper, no dent, just paint removed, and also few little scratches on front bumper (see black underneath STi badge).
In general the car is good -although I am a little concerned as there is a big damp patch in the boot (petrol filler side), but its not fuel, just water. The carpet is slightly mouldy, and it smells damp - perhaps boot seal rubber? The rear windows both have condensation on too, again perhaps window seals? Besides that, the engine bay is full of leaves as its been sat under a conifer, but rest is mint! Car pulls very well, although getting into 3rd gear if really ragging it is a little clunky. Also need to get a b oot lid carpet (for inside actual boot lid).
Zm pleased with the car, needs few things doing to it, but its a good little project to get stuck into. Its done 63468 miles, and ive already priced up a timing belt kit from Alyn :-)
Any views or opinions on the faults, please let me know - any help appriciated!

Ryan

Rdlangy1 08-04-2014 08:04 PM

Also - according to the plaque in the console, its edition number 521 of 750 :-)

Sti mayhew 08-04-2014 08:10 PM

Looks nice mate, good few bits for you to crack on with, hardest part is finding a decent bodyshop!

Rdlangy1 08-04-2014 08:48 PM

yeah there are a few good bodyshops around - I know a good sprayer on the island - and aint too bad at spraying myself...
Its the damp and water in boot and rear windows that bothering me the most.

Willowsdad 08-04-2014 09:03 PM

My rear windows steam up easily, I just assumed it was because they're pillar less and more moisture gets in. I don't get any damp though. Take your spoiler off, check for rust and reseal it. Maybe water is getting in there. Don't know about he bug sti's but my blob doesn't have any carpet inside the boot lid. Looks tidy.

Steve_PPP 08-04-2014 09:08 PM

Damp in the boot is ususally from water coming through the bolt holes where the spoiler is held on (think there are about 12 bolts on a genuine STI spoiler) or through the seals around the back of the rear light clusters. Have you lifted the spare wheel out to check there's not a load of water in the bottom?

I'd empty the boot out of everything and dry it all off then attack it with the hose and see if you can find where the water is going in :)

Rdlangy1 08-04-2014 09:09 PM

great ideas guys !!! many thanks for the advise - ill get a leak spotting at the weekend and report back my findings...

And I just assumed it had carpet in the boot lids as the are what look like clips holes - but you may be right - there may not be any...

Cheers

ryan

Ginola 08-04-2014 09:22 PM

Looks spot on :) bet your chuffed to bits! :) I looking forward to seeing the polished pics :polish:

As Willowsdad said I don't think there is a carpet /liner for the boot lid itself, mine is bare metal as well, less I'm mistaken.

scotty 08-04-2014 09:30 PM

Nice looking bugeye defo no carpet fitted to boot lid as my classic is bare metal as ginola said about his .

Rdlangy1 09-04-2014 07:22 PM

Thanks guys...OK no carpet in boot lid - gotcha !
Steve_PPP - I lifted the spare wheel, and it was swimming !!! Nearly 2" of water in the bottom !?!?! Asked the previous owner at work today and he said he jetwashed it before I picked it up - not sure I believe him as the spare wheel tyre is mouldy !!!! ha ha
Ive checked all the bolts that hold the spoiler in place, and none of them are rusty - so don't think its coming through there - also looked at the light clusters, and can't see that the water running past them would leak into boot.
I removed the boot rubber seal, and thoroughly cleaned the whole metal join, as it was full of dirt, debris, and conifer! I have lightly pushed the rubber seal back on, but will silicone seal it back on at the weekend - anyone recommend a good sealant to use? Obviously one that won't attack or degrade rubber? (gotta say the rubber is a little dry underneath, but not split as such).
