What no F1 thread?

After thinking that with the changes this years F1 would be as bad or worse than last years.............. what a great Bahrain F1 yesterday:worthy:

some proper racing:drive: if it carries on like that for the season, best F1 for a long time:worthy:

bigemp 07-04-2014 12:49 PM

Was an awesome race, with plenty of overtaking not at least between hamilton and rosberg.

With a great win for hamilton...well deserved..

mercedes look in a different class so far but sure the others will catch up shortly

Looking forward to going to silverstone this year and seeing it again

Steve_PPP 07-04-2014 01:28 PM

Superb race wasn't it. Hamilton really showing his teammate that he's not going to me messed with, even on the slower tyres in the last stint.

Great performance from Force India too :10: I expect Paul Di Resta is kicking himself this season.....

Bytes 07-04-2014 01:48 PM

Missed the race yesterday, but enjoyed the highlights this morning. Good to see some wheel to wheel action, and team mates being allowed to fight each other ;)

riiidaa 07-04-2014 01:52 PM

A boring start, but gets better and better

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode...ix_Highlights/

XRS 07-04-2014 03:38 PM

Watched the highlights this morning. Really badly put together, no continuity, difficult to follow.

Still it was a great race. :)

simba 07-04-2014 04:38 PM

Best race in years thought the gp2 was good but this was awesome

Lucky 07-04-2014 05:32 PM

It's certainly shaken the whole thing up this year and yesterday's race has to be one of the best for a vey long time. Good to see Hamilton back to his old self but I'd love to see button come good this year too. Interesting too that they were only a few tenths off of last years pole and actually quicker through the speed traps. Who'd of thought a Prius could do that!!!

Ginola 07-04-2014 10:23 PM

Watched the highlights last night. I got annoyed by them not covering more of the Lewis/Nico battle in the last 10laps. It was an edge of your seat special! Great skill from Hamilton to keep Rosberg behind on the better tyre at the end.
It was good to see just how much of an advantage the Merc's really have.
I personally got quite annoyed hearing about Ferrari and Renault moaning to the FIA about the engine advantage and trying to have restrictions put in place.. typical Ferrari... :S always moan about anyone that does better than them rather than try to improve what they have produced. It was also really good to see how well Daniel Recardo did against Vettel ;)

Red Baron 07-04-2014 10:42 PM

On everyone's recommendations I've just watched the highlights, first time I've sat down and watched that much F1 without wandering out of the room in boredom, let's hope it continues like this season.

Scott.T 07-04-2014 11:16 PM

Watched a bit of the Hamilton battle last night but soon turned off as it sounded like my tv was broke. All I could hear was commentators over excitement, and no car sounds.

A bit like an american youtube clip where they dub a heavy rock track over the sound of a lovely V8.......so annoying.

riiidaa 07-04-2014 11:28 PM

You can't please all of the people all of the time

thecrow015 12-04-2014 06:25 PM

Ok so Monaco this weekend what are peoples predictions?

Personally Merc but I think Rosberg may nick this one, he seems more comfortable there and he really needs to get back in the the game. That said still want Lewis to win 8-)

Lucky 20-05-2014 06:57 PM

Monaco can shake things up sometimes but the mercs only have to do their job in qually and thats that. As you said, a good chance for rosberg to close the gap. The red bulls may go well as they aren't relying on flat out speed, so I think they may pull a suprise or two.

Granby 20-05-2014 07:13 PM

As said Monaco can be a lottery, just needs one of the other drivers to get a clean lap & pole while the others get held up, once in front they don't have to be the fastest to stay in front

Hongkongfooi 20-05-2014 08:02 PM

Monaco is all about where you qualify. So little overtaking I think it's the most boring of the races on the calendar. I'd still like to watch it live though. Rosberg should win this one

thepieman 20-05-2014 08:10 PM

Hamilton for the win:yeah:

but who cares........we'll be at the ring:drive: watching last years out there in the pub in Adenau was :10:

Banstead Stig 20-05-2014 09:10 PM

It'll be interesting to see what the Red Bulls do as they are still considered the "handling car".

Fingers crossed for Hamilton.

Rusti 21-05-2014 11:11 AM

I read a very interesting article on autosport today saying that the Renault powered teams could face grid penalties later on in the year. This is due to a 5 engine limit and apparently Vettel and Kobismashy have already been through 4 each :-o

Only quarter of a way through are they really going to last that long. Obviously they can use parts from those other engines but it then gets really complicated when Renault are bring upgrades and modifications all the time for it to all fit together.

Rusti 22-05-2014 12:56 PM

Practice is looking good for Mercedes again. I do wonder where Ferrari are going to end up on Sunday?

I love silverstone. Usually go but got Le Mans this year instead. Never been to Le Mans so looking forward it.

I actually think they sound ok. Not as noisy which isn't necessarily a bad thing as they were pretty deafening.

oldskool 24-05-2014 12:36 AM

at least we got the red bulls out their dominant stage - was getting a bit repetitive

bigemp 24-05-2014 12:47 PM

With 22 cars on the grid at the same time surely they still gotta sound pretty special last time i went was 99 i think when schumacher broke his leg, hows times have changed the poor guy :(

RobEvo5 24-05-2014 07:25 PM

Well done Rosberg on Pole. But should have been Hamilton's.......

Banstead Stig 24-05-2014 07:35 PM

There is an air of underhandedness about that lock up. Benefit of the doubt probably has to go in his favour.

We'll see if he's quick enough to stay there!

bigemp 24-05-2014 08:17 PM

Rosberg will bottle it under pressure from hamilton and lewis will win....hopefully

Well i was wrong unfortunately lol predictable race in the end,but just watched the Indy 500 now that was a great race as it is every year

Banstead Stig 25-05-2014 10:07 PM

Yeah, shame.

Might have been different if Hamilton had been able to see for the whole race!

A client of mine's son races in Indy Car, but not on the ovals, only the circuits with bends going both ways! He had a nasty accident a few years back on an oval track. Races with Ed Carpenter, who prefers the oval, so a good combo!

I take it you mean mike conway yes he did have a monster crash I think was at Indy they have some big kahunas to race on those ovals so no complimentary tickets for the Indy 500 from his dad then, deffo on my list of things to do is get to see the Indy 500 one day

Well done to Ricardo, Vettel didn't seem too happy about it :D

Feel really gutted for Hamilton 2x DNF's vs none for Nico....

The Crash had me out of my seat :o I was really worried for both drivers.

Steve_PPP 09-06-2014 11:38 AM

Was certainly a big stop for both drivers. Looked to me like Perez moved to the left just as Massa was trying to come down the side of him..... difficult one to call.

Going to be tough for Hamilton if Rosberg's reliability keeps him on the podium at every race. The power problem they had yesterday was very strange to happen at exactly the same time on both cars too. Surely if it was a stress/wear/heat issue it would happen at different times because the cars were being driven differently (e.g. Nico used a fair bit more fuel to cover the same distance as Lewis). Lewis's car would have been hotter following the other Merc etc.... Software bug?

Bytes 09-06-2014 01:09 PM

Hamilton's only 22 points behind, so a streak of 3 wins will put him right next to Rosberg if Mercedes keep up the 1-2 results. A single win for Hamilton and a DNF for Rosberg will put Hamilton ahead...

... good to hear both Massa and Perez are OK. Perez has been given a penalty for causing the crash according to reports.

Great race we was sitting at stowe(with my lucky lewis hamilton cap on) where hamilton tried to do donuts at the end lol, cars deffo did not sound as good especially as prost drove last years red bull round before start of race and the gp2 cars sounded better but then they are v8 naturally aspirated so should sound better, and great result for button as well just a shame he couldnt get on the podium maybe another lap or two and he would of had riccardo

oldskool 07-07-2014 10:48 PM

I love F1 and this years regs has certainly turned it upside down - I never used to be a vettel fan then saw quite a few interviews with him and kinda warmed to him as well as his skills but it was all a bit samey with red bull so dominant before

and this year just got even better with Lewis getting a bit of luck re rosbergs reliability so its a cracking season all in all

Yes has been a good season and mercedes certainly got it right in the 1st year and bet lewis was glad he made the jump when everyone thought he was mad,but sure other teams will catch up with new cars next year, and hopefully jenson with a honda engine(if he still there)will be up challenging again.

Must be a bit of a shock for vettel this year but as always said its not about just having the best car,its gotta be a combination of driver and car to get the best out of it.

Another great race to watch, shame Hamilton couldn't get Alonso at the end but considering he got a podium from the pit lane and punting the barrier on lap one, he should be well chuffed.

At least Rosberg didn't take the opportunity to pull out a bigger lead in the championship, all that whinging of "why isn't he letting me through" was out of order, Lewis was quite right to hold him up.

Banstead Stig 27-07-2014 11:48 PM

Lucky 28-07-2014 10:00 AM

A great race again and completely agree with what Lewis did. As he said, at the end of the day they are racing. These torquey engines certainly seem to be catching them out in the wet too.

XRS 28-07-2014 10:20 AM

I was just wondering what would have happened if they had put Lewis on two sets of super softs rather than one of softs. Clearly Rosberg was able to catch up having had the extra stop, and Lewis would have been electric on those tyres with a bit of life left in them.

Or if they'd pitted them both when nico had his last stop, they'd both have been flying , would have been interesting racing and maybe they could have caught ricciardo, assuming they didn't hold each other up too much.

Looking forward to this weekend. My mate is going ... git...

Pretty sure it was double waved yellows before that point, watching it live, it had gone to yellow after Adrian had crashed, It was still under yellow when that happened, I think he is waving Green there as past that point it is clear.. I think Suzuka also has the modern FIA lights system in place though I could be mistaken.

Watching the above is really horrific and terrible bad luck on Jules's part. I am truly amazed he is still alive after watching that back.. I hope he pulls through.

Press update,
Jules Bianchi: Driver is in 'critical but stable condition' say family

The family of Marussia driver Jules Bianchi have issued an update on his condition after he suffered severe head injuries at the Japanese Grand Prix.
The 25-year-old from France had surgery on Sunday after his car hit a recovery vehicle that was removing another car.
The family revealed he suffered a diffuse axonal injury and is regarded as "critical but stable".
The FIA, world motorsport's governing body, have asked race director Charlie Whiting for a report on the crash.
What is diffuse axonal injury?

By Michelle Roberts, BBC News Online Health Editor
If the brain moves back and forth in the skull as a result of rapid acceleration or deceleration, such as in a car crash, damage can occur
The shearing action disrupts the brain's architecture and kills brain cells
In response to the injury, the brain swells and this increasing pressure can restrict blood flow, causing further brain damage
Assessing how much damage has occurred can take time - some damage may well be irreversible

"Jules remains in the Intensive Care Unit of the Mie General Medical Centre in Yokkaichi. He has suffered a diffuse axonal injury [when the head is rapidly accelerated or decelerated] and is in a critical but stable condition," the family said.
"The medical professionals at the hospital are providing the very best treatment and care and we are grateful for everything they have done for Jules since his accident."
The statement added: "This is a very difficult time for our family, but the messages of support and affection for Jules from all over the world have been a source of great comfort to us. We would like to express our sincere appreciation."

Pretty perfect summary.

Does seem Rosberg lacks a little finesse when the pressure is on. He buckled at Spa, then got a bit overexcited today. As you say though, excellent recovery.

Lucky 12-10-2014 06:13 PM

Nico has lost it this year imo, he buckles under the pressure and tried to make the move stick on turn one as he knew Lewis would be quicker and disappear otherwise.

And I think Nico's recovery drive was a case of the car flattering him - the Merc's were way ahead of the rest in race trim and that was the only reason he managed to get back up to 2nd. Lewis led the race and cruised home from lap 2, he was lifting and coasting down all the straights and just looking after the car.

The only one close was Bottas and I'm sure he wasn't pushing hard due to concerns about fuel consumption and Williams taking the conservative approach again (and knowing that it wasn't worth trying to race Lewis).

Banstead Stig 13-10-2014 05:26 PM

Agreed. As I said above, Spa and Sochi were the most obvious examples in my opinion.

This was in an article I read this afternoon and is quite telling.

Rosberg is yet to beat him [Hamilton] in a straight fight when they have both started together at the front of the grid, nor has he won an on-track battle with Hamilton this season.
If the reliability issues had been more evenly felt across the team (not to mention the 'taking out' incident) then the championship would be very different.

That said, if Rosberg can win the last three races he'll have won seven races to Hamilton's nine, which wouldn't be too ridiculous. Just not sure he's got it in him personally and I hope to be proven correct in due course!

I think had it been any other track then rosberg would of had to of made another pit stop or 2 and would never have got 2nd, It was just lucky for him that the track surface was very unabracive and easy on the tires.

Just hope if it does come down to last race that rosberg dont win it with the double points, with something happening to lewis

Great overtake and much needed points for Lewis. Fingers crossed for no mechanical failures in the last two races

He's got Nico well and truly beaten hasn't he. Only worry must be if there's a mechanical failure on his car in Abu Dhabi and Nico scoops up 50 points.

Without the double points in the last race, Lewis could have won the title in Brazil by simply finishing ahead of his teammate....

Come on Lewis Hamilton
