remove STi spoiler...

OK - before I HULK SMASH the poxy thing - does anyone know what the hell I could be missing when removing my STi spoiler from my 2002 bugeye?

Ive removed the brake light connector, removed the 10 bolts - and lift - well it lifts in middle, and lifts at back, but either side wont budge...

Def can't see anymore bolts to undo unless your meant to remove the tension bars? Can't believe the tension bars are attached to the spoiler?

anyone let me know what the hell I could be missing?

I can lift it up about 2mm, and I can see some sort of white plastic clip - but can't see anyway of removing it. tried everything - anyone any ideas?

HELP !! :sos::sos::sos:

Sure someone will be along to answer soon mate. A few have gone spoiler-less before so must have had to take it off or put one back on before.

Sorry, got distracted so didn't read properly so edited to remove my useless response!!

I just pulled up hard and the white clips pop apart I thought

There are 12 bolts i think.... not 10. Hang on a sec, i'm sure i've got a photo of the one on my car when i was sorting it.....

I'll check the hi-res photos later but i've got a feeling it might be 12 bolts + 2 poppers? Would check now but i'm on the laptop sitting on the sofa in front of the champions league footy ;)

HI Guys,

Thanks for the replies - it was 12 bolts - there are two hidden under the rubber boot stops - bl**dy Japanese hiding things ! ha ha

broke the two white clips - but its off.

Only downside was the foster lad dropped it when lifting it off, and chipped the boot lid !!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Flew to halfrauds - got touch up pot made up, came back, primed, and waiting till tomorrow to see if I can get it blended with an ear bud!

Gotta say, did a colour test on the bottom of the spoiler, and the colour match is 100% - £9.99 for a pot made up in 5mins! Guy was surprised though as apparently Paint code 02c (Mica blue) has 60% pearl in it - he said he hasn't done a paint mix with that amount of pearl ever! does match 100% though so he did a good job - tomorrow ill see if I can do it justice! Trouble is, I know its gonna be there - but its only about 1cm long, and if I tried filler, and sanding e.t.c. id make it more of a mess.

Thanks for all the help with the spoiler removal though.

Ordered new rubber washes, got new metal washers, and got 1cm wide x 5mm thick one sided waterproof draught excluder foam strip coming to re-seal the whole thing.

Can't decide wether to use silicone sealant too - or just stick with the above.

Ryan

Looked online and Americans say there are 17.... Work that one out

Rdlangy1 23-04-2014 08:35 AM

17 ?!?!?!? What are they holding on - a plane wing?

Red Baron 23-04-2014 08:42 AM

You have to remember that everything is bigger and better in America!!!
