Anyone used these?

Right I've had sticky pistons on my callipers for a couple of weeks, then today I was driving and some seriously bad shaking from the steering wheel and a burning smell, so I pulled over and all seemed on except black disks, drove slowly home (about 2 miles away) and took wheels of and removed brake pads to reveal the bottom piston on my drivers side front had completely seized and the top piston on the passenger side had don't the same. So I'm looking at a new set of front callipers so has anyone heard of these or used them before?

Any help would be really appreciated.
Thanks all

I had them on my facelift classic. As good as the originals and good quality too but with WRX pro written on there. Grind the face down then get subaru stickers off ebay. I got mine from Godspeed as a kit with pads and discs.

Or get a refurb kit with new pistons and get someone like SMD to refurb. Not too difficult a job to replace seals etc. Will work out a lot cheaper than new calipers. :)

I was thinking that Steve but the only rebuild kit I can find is £129 + fitting I'm guessing close to £180 -£200 all together?

Cheers for that mate, I take it they are standard 295mm disk fitment aswell?

Are the pistons actually rusted up too? If its just the seals that have failed allowing dirt inside etc, then a clean up with just the new seals should be fine - and much cheaper.

Right I see, the pistons do look rusty but then I suppose it could be surface rust or am I just living in hope?

i had this happen to me once. my disk went black too, and had warped so you may need new discs too

When I bought mine there was a receipt for a set of refurbed, powder coated calipers so I thought that was one less thing to worry about, turns out the cheap, mild steel pistons rusted and seized in about 3 years so I'd say it was false economy to go with another cheap set. I managed to pick up a re-furbed set off Scabbynet a couple of weeks ago which had the bonus of having stainless pistons fitted as well for £180. Just need to sell the old ones now, even a scabby set of 4 pots requiring a re-furb are worth £70-£80.

My scooby had these fitted by the previous owner last year and have plenty of stopping power for me.

Scruff 06-05-2014 09:17 PM

I think Godspeed offered standard or improved pistons for the calipers.

Just seen this on Scabbynet, nearly new calipers, discs and pads for £200 and only in Heathfield

Cheers mate, had a look but the calipers on line can be had for £85 each side and he's only selling them with pads and no disks mate, but thanks anyway

Fair enough, misread that bit, you never know, point out how much you can get them for and then make him an offer, he can only say no.

Danwrx 08-05-2014 09:50 PM

Yeah I think I will mate, thanks for that, I might still do steve's idea and change the seals ect on mine, either way they need to be done before leeds castle, along with refurbing my wheels clean engine bay, clean and machine polish car and a few other bits, need to get a move on lol
