Reverse Scoop

Anyone have any experience of one of these? The scoop on the Hawkeye bonnet has a missing 'slat' and I quite fancy replacing it with a reverse one. The boot is already spoilerless.

Any thoughts or suggestions as to where to look for one of these? I've found a few for classics and newage before hawks, but not seen any that'll fit my bonnet

Car has FMIC already...

Steve_PPP 05-06-2014 09:42 PM

Find a sport bonnet and get it painted? Would look good with a spoilerless boot

Found this on google, but you're right, there's more options for bug/blob than hawk isn't there....

Thanks for looking Steve :)

I'm chatting with CarBen Fibre Creations via PM on SN to see what they can offer. http://www.carbenfibrecreations.co.uk/store/index.php

I have a replacement scoop to replace the current one, but it is in white and would need spraying...

scooby doo 06-06-2014 02:04 PM

On a hawk they look ace, go for it

oiler 06-06-2014 07:46 PM

alfa male 11-06-2014 10:37 PM

Matt B of Pole Position breakers has a used, good condition carbon Charge Speed one of these for sale at the mo, £200.

Dunno if thats good or not? but thought it may be worth a post.

Bytes 11-06-2014 11:39 PM

Thanks, I'll take a look ... but £200 was more than I wanted to spend

Ginola 12-06-2014 10:20 AM

Quite interested in this, been reading a lot about flow through and under bonnet temps/water and charge temps and how the scoop affects it when FMIC is fitted, extra turbulence reduced low pressure zones etc.

Thought about blanking it off under the scoop to maintain the look but not sure if this will cause some serious turbulence and act like a dirty great brake (not that doesn't already do that!)

Tough one as for me, the scoop is a big part of a Wrx's identity. Does it really make THAT much difference? Not like changing it will put seconds on the clock when tracking or drag racing it, will it?!

oldskool 12-06-2014 11:56 AM

so true about identity - you know youre in a fun car when you see that scoop in front of you - gotta say if I had a black or silver scoob id be considering a fmic and a de scoop and de spoiler and some plain colour wheels for the ultimate sleeper look ... unfortunately mine being wr blue its never gonna be a sleeper

Thanks for finding the scoop alfa :)

This is the sort of thing I'm looking for, but I need one for a Hawkeye bonnet, so don't know if this JDM Blobeye one will fit. Also, still undecided whether to go carbon fibre or fibreglass painted blue to match the bonnet.

Any thoughts on standing water ingress? Car is not garaged, so open to elements ...

Bytes 12-06-2014 12:12 PM

Or there's this style from HT Autos (Bugeye this time)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...eek/RevSc5.jpg

The 'identity' issue is interesting, but I'm taking the line that this car is already highly modified as it was originally a UK300 no. 223. Considering the front end Hawkeye conversion and the despoilered boot, I thought... in for a penny...

oldskool 12-06-2014 12:17 PM

oh wow it was a bug !!! lol I didn't realise ,, great job so far then it looks awesome :-)

Not a fan of this style really, just looks too bulky and breaks up the lines of the bonnet.

simonairheadz 12-06-2014 12:50 PM

Dont you think that the scoop and spoiler is everything that wanting a scoobies about

Wow, I didn't know that! Yes, it's far from original (as in parts) or standard now  The Identity thing is my personal conondrum. The pics with the reverse scoop look lovely just not sure if I'd do it to mine.

On the autobahn, places like spa etc maybe a few 10ths, but it's more about the cooling benefits than anything else. The scoop creates a big pressure build up behind the engine/rad which had a negative effect on air movement through the FMIC/Radiator... I too prefer the scoop for the look on the wr blue coloured cars like mine, but i know there are substantial cooling benefits to the reverse scoop/flat bonnet.

Interesting stuff, didn't know any of that although all perfectly logical. Food for thought should I go stage two for sure.....

I can't find a Hawk reverse scoop on RCM website either. But, if the price stays low, it may be worth a risk ;)

You could ring RCM to see if they sell them?

Anger 16-06-2014 06:21 PM

All the rcm ones I've seen have been carbon

Bytes 19-06-2014 08:02 PM

Won it :yeah:

The last few seconds felt like I was a passenger with 'Big E' as the adrenaline was flowing ;-)

I managed to speak to someone at RCM who confirmed they did make them, but there were none listed on their website. I also found out the retail price and am pleased with the winning bid 8-)

scooby doo 19-06-2014 09:56 PM

Awesome

scotty 19-06-2014 10:13 PM

Apologies for the unwashed look of the car
