splutter above 5KRPM

I had a CEL for my IACV, which I have had for a while. Only happened when I am goign down hill and off teh throttle, or gentle throttle for 15 seconds or longer. The IACV is fine and i have set it according to the JGM site, but I have heard it said that a MAF that is borderline failing could throw a CEL for the IACV.

I had a spare MAF in the shed, so I fitted it and the CEL disappeared.

At the same time I fitted new plugs and welded up a small crack I had in my center resonator.

Took it for a test drive and all the power is there, but when I go over 5K, it's giving the odd splutter. Coil packs are fine, rubber is how it should be.
Any ideas?
I am due to do a dyno run on the 5th of next month so I only really have next weekend to try and sort this

update:-
its the MAF. I put the old one back in and the problem is still there, but much less so than before. looks like I need to source a replacement.

The part code on the MAF is 22680-AA160 (Green label).

Looking on ebay, they seem to be listed for the GF8 which is 218BHP. as mine is running with an STI ECU that's chipped and with a few other mods should be running between 300 and 320BHP. in view of that, would a stock MAF be ok still?
I have a funny feeling the green label was used on early WRX and STI's too, which if that is the case, then a new one should be fine for me.
I am looking at this on ebay
