Hawkeye wrx questions

Guys what's peoples thoughts on a hawk wrx ?
Seen one 68k, £4200 thinking about it, and play with it to around the 340/380ft
Just fancy a newish car but can't afford a hawk sti

555_Si 24-06-2014 12:10 PM

I bought my bug wrx as I wan't planning on spending loads of money on what was a third car at the time.

wrx over sti - cheaper, not really a lot less stuff unless you really want to track day it, can be upgraded to sti spec if you desire in your own time, costs more to do if going whole hog, but say you want a little power, just turbo, exhaust, injectors and remap and you are at remapped sti power.

you wont have the better 4wd split like the 6 speed cars or the stronger box, but 340 should be fine.

Currently running my wrx bug in this sort of spec.

Saying that you fancy a newish car? what are you looking for in newish car? the hawkeye is essentially a bug, buit if you are just after a less older car in terms of age of parts then fair enough.

Just fancy a newer version, if a cheap blob sti pops up il go that route again but fancy a hawk just not 10k sti hawk lol been down power route , was thinking of a quick daily driver really,

I'd pick a late blob 2.0 wrx over a 2.5 hawk wrx personally.....

Banstead Stig 24-06-2014 01:48 PM

I thiink the 2.5 gets an overly bad press, but the WRX seems to be more susceptible once you up the power, so it doesn't seem a good plan to me.

I'd agree with Steve, a late blob WRX would be where my money went if my budget didn't stretch to a STi.

I dont think the hawk WRX suffered in the same way as the STI with engine issues?. And as Banstead Stig said, they do get a hammering on scoobynet etc but in fairness I never had any problem with mine running a full decat and 350/390. The 2.5 is a cracking engine for torque but for me where it always lacked was with the thump that the 2.0 has. The 2.5 is very smooth but that kind of takes the fun out of it hence me going back to a blob STI.

I have also had an 04 WRX which was a great car and would have another in a heart beat. I would go for as later blob as you can get.

Prob pick up a sti then save messing around lol

I get the impression that the issues with the early hatch tarnished the 2.5. A factory map which endangered the engine was a right own goal!

That said, the 2.0 is a great engine... we have one of each so I can see the benefit of both!

The 2.5 probably can't be pushed as far as the 2.0, but that doesn't mean it is bad!

Interesting point on the WRX vs STi. I've seen people push a 2.5 WRX too far. I've seen people push a 2.0 WRX too far, but you could well be right that in more standard form the WRX didn't have issues in the same way as the STi.

Don't think I've helped at all!

Ooh i'm loving that

Wonder what the reserve is?

scooby doo 25-06-2014 09:48 AM

Thought spec was good

drakesnow 25-06-2014 01:03 PM

Definitely go with that classic over a standard hawk. Though that lovely bug sti I linked you looks good too for the money if you want to go newage.

jusnogood 25-06-2014 01:17 PM

The hawk does look good for the price although four services in 8 years isn't good. Sounds like it's been owned by someone who can't afford to run one properly...bet it's got mixed make tires as well.

Always thought the hawk looks like a seat from the front..I can't tell the difference 😳
