Insurance - who does everyone use ?

Hey everyone ! i just moved house and notified my insurers today ,, kinda expected them to say it was a higher risk area and add a bit on if they could ( even though its a nicer area ) and they didnt disappoint but i was quite shocked when they increased my premium by almost £200 !!

Im 48 and now paying over a grand for the scooby ,,, having just moved im debating selling the car as ideally i would like to spend a couple of grand on it to make it how i want ie wheels and stuff but cant do that now as will be spending the money on getting a drive put in here and some landscaping and general housey stuff ,, i can live with the car unmodified and really enjoy it so would love to hang on to it but in reality its not my daily driver and i could live without it if running costs are going to escalate

If i sell i would defo be buying another one so having found a good one already it seems silly to let it go but common sense is saying spend money onnthe house not a car

So ill hopefully get some time this week to ring around and try get a better deal on the insurance possibly from a specialist insurers etc - who do you guys use and any recommendations on where to try for a good deal ?

Thanks in advance for any info - Nick

I use LV mate. £220 I think mine is with the mrs on it and breakdown. I'm 44 but have full NCD, have no points (as of now) and the car us standard with tracker.

Gary moulson again. Obviously I don't know your driving history etc but I'd say over a £1000 is very steep. Mines less than half that and I'm 43 with no claims/tickets etc.

Thanks big E ,, ill give em a ring :-)

And will defo try lv thanks just no - im 48 ,, 5 or 6 years ncb and clean licence

When i was thinking about getting a scoob i got online quotes for like £400 but when i bought it things had gone up and small print when taking up insurance on the fone hammering out all the details seemed to drive the price high ,, would of been cheap if id taken a chance and done it online at quoted prices

oldskool 19-08-2014 10:30 PM

Cheers lucky ,, ill defo try him ,, do you have a number ?

I was done for dui 8 years ago for being one mg over the legal limit ,, licence is clean but until that conviction is over ten years old that may be a factor

Try tescos mate. I use them at the moment, I'm 29 I've got no ncb as I was without a car for a couple of years and lost my previous ncb due to no insurance held, clean licence and I pay 579 a year comprehensive. No one else could beat that quote. God knows how I get it that cheap (others may think it's high) but I'm quite happy.

Cheers Dan ,,,, ive put them on the list

I was with Gary when I only had one, I'm 42, max NCB and last year it was £600 ish with mods allowed up to 400bhp.

But I'm now with Admiral on a multi car policy, was the cheapest way to insure 3 scoobs, although ones in bits, still wanted it insured, and the Landy.

I'm with Gary and well happy, be patient getting hold of him as he is a very busy man, for a reason!

It is worth the hassle in the end and I pay a lot less on all my cars than I was quoted elsewhere and he can also do track cover if required.

Nuff said.

I'm with Elephant, ridiculously expensive but I'm 22 (still cheapest i could find at the time). Most people wouldn't allow mods, but they do.

Next year I'll probably try Gary as mentioned in this thread.

Another vote for Gary.

He's sorted out both of our Subarus since owning them with solid prices, good service and helpful advice. Always nice to have a chat with someone who knows about cars too!

I tend not to find getting hold of him too bad. I'm either lucky or just have impeccable timing (or a bit of both)! Hope I haven't jinxed myself for the next renewal!

I think the reason I have trouble getting hold of Gary is that I need to ring him on a monthly basis. I could do with fleet insurance, I still have more cars to put his way.

That being the case you'll probably soon get your own "bat phone" type arrangement!
