Project 'Front Bumper' begins

Hi Folks,

After removing the current bumper from my '03 Sti and replacing it with a temporary match (thanks to Scooby Spares), the time has come to get off my arse and start working on the majorly deteriorated lacquer and paintwork I have been left on the original. It looks to have been a distinctly dreadful attempt at a re-spray by a previous owner and is somewhat of an embarrassment!

My question to the masses would be recommendations on sandpaper grits/types and the best techniques and methods to remove the lacquer and poor paints as well as smoothing out any damage and imperfections. It is not an area I have any expertise in but I am always wanting to give things a go as much as I can.

I understand time and patience is essential, rushing this could end up a disaster and let's face it you have to put a lot in to get the best out! The bumper will be professionally painted once I have done as much as I can prep wise.

At the end of all this I aim to have a refreshed front end as well as a complete bug Sti front bumper to sell-on (the replacement unit currently on my car which could also do with a bit of work!)

On another topic the first port of call tomorrow morning will be trying to distinguish what is so grumbly in the nearside rear wheel area when I turn right, I am currently thinking wheel bearing as both the rears could do with being changed, will also pull the calliper and disk off to check all the components there too.
