Moving car with engine out?

Ok so the engine is out of the bugeye, but moving around in the garage is a right pita!

The gearbox is currently resting on a trolley jack and is just above the front cross member, could I drop I t onto the crossmember to allow the car to be moved? Or as I have seen elsewhere should I put a spacer (block of wood) between the box and crossmember to get it at its normal height? And if so how thick a piece of wood?

Its fine on the cross member, mine's been like for ages, been moved all around the yard. Its surprising the amount of movement in the gearbox mounts.
