What clutch and flywheel?

I've got a 53 plate wrx which I'm planning to upgrade to 280-300 hp. What clutch and lightened flywheel do you guys recommend? My wife drives the car occasionally so don't want the clutch to be too aggressive.
Thanks in advance.

Oe will be fine

for a std road car i would simply use the std flywheel..........

decent OE as above will do everything you want or possibly use an Exedy "pink" if you want a little headroom

carry all in stock

I've just bought an exedy pink and ACT lightened flywheel from Alyn and running about 280bhp at the moment too. I can let you know what i think in a couple of weeks once i get the car back! (gearbox out being rebuilt at the moment).

However, i'm not fussed if it drives a bit more aggressively as its just a weekend car. If you want it to drive the same as standard I'd save some money and go OE.

i have an exeedy pink....no difference than oe

What sort of price is an oe clutch for a blob?

Mike j 06-12-2015 01:56 PM

Right, need advice again. I'm looking for a new clutch. The current exedy pink has decided that it doesn't like 331hp and has started to slip. What clutch do you guys recommend? There are no more plans for power increases but ideally want the clutch to last longer than a year/5000 miles
Thanks in advance...

I'm surprised - thought the pink box was good for 450bhp... I'm running 330+ and a pink box with no issues.

Best give Alyn @ AS Performance a shout - he will help with advise and pricing :ok:

thats strange...iv got pink clutch and running more than that no problem....

Mike j 06-12-2015 08:46 PM

The clutch has only started slipping since the car was mapped. Don't know why else it would have failed so quickly. Any ideas?

Scott.T 06-12-2015 09:44 PM

Strange !!!!!!
Was the Excedy from Alyn or from Ebay

scooby doo 06-12-2015 10:48 PM

I'd look inside it 1st could be the cover on back of engine block could be weeping , then it will slip.
A genuine pink box clutch will cope with 330hp especially if only 5k on it.

Mike j 07-12-2015 07:26 AM

Thanks for that, I'll have a look. The clutch was from Alyn so definitely genuine.

Did you get the fly checked/skimmed when the clutch was fitted?

Mike j 07-12-2015 04:21 PM

Yes. Was fitted by Stuart at Sussex mobile services and he said it had been done.

munk 07-12-2015 07:41 PM

stuarts spot on aswell. so god knows whats occuring there..have you been launching the old girl from every junction...for the last 4900 miles:yeah:

Ginola 07-12-2015 08:27 PM

Above you guys your are all running 6 speed exceedy clutches at a guess and Mike is running the 5 speed variant.. I would still get it checked out the 5 speed ones are rated at 310lb/ft but will generally cope with a little more unless abused badly, where as the 6 speed ones are a little larger and cope with 400lb/ft odd.

Its the torque that kills them not the bhp

Mike j 07-12-2015 09:42 PM

I have been launching it a bit recently (new turbo innit lol) and it is running 315lb/ft so maybe it was inevitable? I'll take it down for Stuart to have a look, and if he says the clutch is knackered, which clutch should I go for next?
