GoPro Alternative

Anyone considering a GoPro and not being able to justify the cost should take a look at this : http://www.eachbuyer.com/sj4000-dv-a...r-p359745.html

My youngest has just put his pocket money towards one and I am seriously impressed with it.
I have just done a quick back-2-back comparison with my GoPro Hero3 and this £43 contender is not far off.
The colours are slightly different and the resolution isn't quite as clear but the reaction to light change is very good and far better then I have seen on early GoPro and other HD/Bullet Camera's retailing for £100+

It also comes with lots of mounts, a waterproof case, LCD display (which the GoPro requires a LCD backplate or GoPro App on you phone).

I saw a few of these kicking about at Goodwood, so I think GoPro should be worried.

All fittings are also compatible with GoPro. So if you want fittings for your GoPro (that would cost alot more then £43) then just buy this and get a free camera.

I got my boy one for Christmas, haven't been able to fault it.

Banstead Stig 01-07-2015 07:10 PM

Nice one.

Definitely tempted to give that a punt.

munk 01-07-2015 07:12 PM

nice..im very tempted aswell..scott is this a site you use often?? just unsure about ordering from them??

C. J. 01-07-2015 07:38 PM

I'd be happy with one of those but it won't link to my phone !!!! :(

Scott.T 01-07-2015 07:47 PM

You don't really need the phone link as it has a rear display.
The wifi link on the gopro seriously drains the camera battery

C. J. 01-07-2015 08:21 PM

You do if you want to use Harry lap timer with it :)

Red Baron 01-07-2015 08:43 PM

You can get them from amazon as well if you want to use someone you've heard of.

Moley_WRX 01-07-2015 08:47 PM

Ive just bought one of these.... http://www.hobbyking.co.uk/hobbyking...roof_Case.html

Delivery and import tax put the price up slightly (the Wifi model comes from their international warehouse) but I'm very impressed so far, connects perfectly with my iPhone

munk 02-07-2015 05:18 AM

iv orderd one so the wait begins

I just got a hero 4 black and am not impressed as I thought I would be, yes they are good but just not loving it.

I have just also ordered the EE Action Camera which can live stream as well, uses Go Pro compatable mounting and has a watch type device for view finder so easy to control. Tech specs not quite as good as Hero 4 black, but good as an extra camera, plus live streaming might be nice for some things.

That's exactly how I have always felt with my Hero 3.
I've just had it replaced after 2 years 2 months on a 2 year warranty with no questions asked, so happy with that.
Would I buy another ? I doubt it.

Now that the cheaper options have sorted out their light/white balance fading and don't seem to flick from light to dark as ambient light changes they are a much more wallet friendly option.

I would guess that the cheap options are 2 GoPro iterations behind as even early GoPro Hero & Hero 2 had the light/white balance issue.

Just ordered one of these, I'm aware it is the fake version of the SJCAM SJ4000 but going to try it on my RC car but trusting Scott on this one and for the price I'm sure it will do the job, thanks for the heads up mate. If it is up to scratch I might go for the wifi version

munk 07-08-2015 07:26 AM

daft question maybe as my "american" maybe made in thailand version that i have, didntcome with any guide...can you forward the footage when watching it back on your tv?? can find out how to do it for love nor money?? thanks.

stiggy 09-08-2015 08:32 PM

My TV looks at the camera's DCIM folder just using a micro USB and sees it as a video file so can use the remote to fast forward/rewind. Not tried it as a PC camera yet. What are you connecting yours with as always up for trying it a different way?

C. J. 20-08-2015 03:56 PM

Yahoo it's finall arrived :)

Are you able to get pictures up on your phone?

I've been given a quadcopter, but the camera is a touch basic. I'm keen to get one that I can get to feed to my phone so I can see what I'm filming whilst flying!

C. J. 20-08-2015 06:42 PM

Yes real time pics to phone 👍

C. J. 20-08-2015 06:42 PM

Same here. Haven't got it out of the box yet as there's a lot of red tape as to where you can fly them!

On my first effort flying it in the garden I ended up "trimming" some plants and then crashing into the shed door, so I can understand the concern of letting all and sundry have a crack anywhere they fancy.

I'm planning on using the Epsom Downs as a test flight area on the basis that the model aeroplane clubs go there to fly, so my little quadcopter must be fine.

SeanMcKnetic 21-08-2015 08:30 AM

See if you can make sense of this garbled 'drone law' article before taking it over the Downs. I'm still unclear on it.

I'm not putting a camera on it until I can fly it properly, which I'm not sure is actually all that easy based on my first go. The Downs are nice and open for practice.

A lot of the issues seem to be more around capturing images, etc.

I'm generally comfortable that where the law is grey, few people will either know how, or bother, to do anything about it.

I don't plan on using mine for snooping, just a bit of harmless mucking about.

If I get it wrong though, you're welcome to visit me in prison, point and laugh!

SeanMcKnetic 21-08-2015 11:43 AM

Yes same here!
