Maybe viewing a blob sti

Hi guys some of you may know I sold my lovely bugeye wrx 😔 as I fancy a blob sti I been looking at a few on line Idealy I want a standard one that's not been messed with. I found one with full main dealer service history and belts done 20k ago!

Now I might be going to view it on weekend and would like some advice please is there anything I should look out for on the sti other than the obvious?

Ginola 09-02-2016 06:48 PM

Knocking rear suspension, rust on bootlid spoiler drainage channels.

thoroughly check the service history, have a really good look underneath make sure it drives perfectly. and everything is the same colour if possible! :)

They suffer with rear shocks knocking don't they? Thanks I'm going to try check its all same colour but wearer doesn't look like it's going to help with that!

Is it a private sale or dealer? If the latter, ask to view it indoors first.

munk 09-02-2016 08:01 PM

knocking rear struts, rusty front cross member below rad, and rear sub frame , seen a few now which really arnt to clever for the age..history and millege tally up if its a low millege example... good luck

Didn't know rear sub frame goes on these :/ it's on 100k on 04 plate last owner had it for 9 years
Is it easy to get shocks to knock if they are? Do they only do it over big bumps etc?

They knock when pulling away, it'll be easy to hear

What sort of money are they asking for a 100k example

Ok thanks it's up for £7995 it's completely standard non PPP

NL03Scooby 09-02-2016 09:06 PM

Both of mine have had leaky boot seals and water forming in various points of the boot so check that out, especially this time of year.

I think judging on mileage, age and price there is room for negotiation, £7995 seems a little steep to me, probably because it's a trader. Getting one completely standard is a big plus.

munk 09-02-2016 09:07 PM

iv seen a few rear sub frames that are in bad shape now, just a heads up, thats strong money imo opinion for a 100k ?? mine would knock from cold also. there is a modificaton you can do but proberbly easier to just buy a new /second hand set.

I'll make sure I get under it and have a proper look then! Yea it is a bit high but as said above I'm not wanting to pay full price.

Rdlangy1 10-02-2016 06:54 AM

Agreed the price seems a little steep :ok:

good luck Though!

scooby doo 10-02-2016 08:54 AM

price + millage = alot,, that will deffo need if not already rear shocks,
id look around bit more fella

Dan881 10-02-2016 12:44 PM

I have been looking about but hardly any about that havnt been messed about with! Rear shock arnt a massive problem as I can do them myself or do they simply cost a bomb??

I know it's seems a lot but most of the blob eye sti's seem to be £8000-£10,000 some even more! Seem like like going up what would people say one with 100k if worth then?

Red Baron 10-02-2016 01:13 PM

Just as a comparison there's an 05 wide track with 41k and FSH on Scabbynet for £10995. Unfortunately it's in Derbyshire.

They all seem to be miles away! Lol

Well spoke to him on phone and he is adamant it's a really clean genuine car and
Got him down to £7500 over the phone I would think it's worth £7000??

For a comparison mileage on that 2nd black one is a lot less

I would not be afraid to travel for the right car.

munk 10-02-2016 07:03 PM

travelings ok ,as long as the owner is spot on with the description, and doesnt hide anything, iv done some serious millege before just to discover someone elses "mint" condition is no where near as mint as mine...:splat:

Looks a clean example considering the mileage but anyone can make a car look good in photos.

Noticed its missing the front passenger-side mudflap. Check the arch liner/trim carefully as this style of flap are just screwed/bolted into the arch. They're normally 'removed' when pinched between a curb and the wheel reversing and driving over it.

It does look clean but won't be able to tell till I see it in person as like you say pictures can make it look better!

Can't believe I didn't notice that mud flap missing another point to knock price down lol. I know what you mean about them getting pinched between curb nearly did it on my wrx :/

I know it high miles but surely if it been well cared for shouldn't be a problem to much as these car are capable of much higher?? My bug was on 117k running 280bhp and engine was fine and drove lovely

scotty 10-02-2016 10:51 PM

I wouldnt pay that price for that black one with that mileage i didnt even pay that for the sti i sold to Rob .

Well i would pay 6k for it but thats me as l know i can find better for the same price or less with less mileage .

iPond 11-02-2016 05:02 PM

Having recently (last September) bought one myself, I would agree that the price seems a little steep. Mine was an 04 on 70k, practically standard and I paid less than this.

However, you are correct in saying that prices seem to be rising at the moment. I have seen similar cars to mine in terms of condition, mileage etc. going for 9-10k lately as you say.

I have been looking at them since about last October and they was going for about 6-7k back then! Now I've sold mine they all seem to have gone up I know this one is not cheap but is one of the cheapest for its condition service history ect. I think it's worth 7k but dunno if I'll get him to go that low :/

scotty 12-02-2016 06:28 AM

Well i found this 55k full history 9.5k ono

Scoobs shouldn't be on bags! But I understand they're not a cheap setup, if its in decent condition then there must be some money to be had by switching to standard suspension/coilovers and selling the air-ride kit on?

LMAO! Not a good look imo.

Back on topic though. If you have any doubts, I wouldn't rush into buying the first one you like... I spent most of last year making my mind up and in the end only missed out on one that I think I would have taken over the one I ended up with. And that was Scotty's old black one (Damn the missus making me go on holiday!).

From what I have seen, the ones that pop up on the forum tend to be a little more reasonably priced (and usually better looked after).

7k you'll have people all over it and a lot of breakers

Dan881 15-02-2016 08:39 PM

Well I brought it car seemed to all be ok! Exhaust was shot blowing everywhere and tiny bit of rust on boot but that's no problem as knocked him down more for that! Already removed second cat and fitted cat back got someone who can sort rust out aswell.

Checked it over on ramp this evening all seems straight which is good! Just one question are the sti shocks red?
