Car Things This Weekend
I feel devoid of car related things now back at work and not driving round in a convoy of interesting motors - what car events are on this weekend people ?
|
World Rallycross at Lydden Hill.
|
My 'car related thing' for the weekend will be cleaning all the bugs off it and working out what to do with it...
|
prepping and gathering bits for Rich to work his magic Tuesday :ok:

Subliminal Transmissions Inbound |
Probably catch some live streaming of the Nurburgring 24hr's.
Might actually wash the car properly. Consider a BBQ every day of the bank holiday weekend. Convince Steve to purchase an STI lump with appropriate turbo... Purchase exhaust manifold gaskets and dipstick seal/o-ring along with oil and filter in prep for new sump fitment sometime soon. Work out what to do about 'track unfriendly' exhaust noise issues. |

I put a bung in the EVO, but it was a pain and kept shaking free with the vibrations. Tracks like Brands they have the drive by's so it would pass a static but ping the drive by. Had I have kept it I would have fitted a quieter system (I actually did buy one but sold it before fitting it). Milltek are pretty quiet. |

3" de-cat down pipe, un-resonated centre section and a Milltek back box, pinged the drive-by 3 times before they bought me in. I have a resonated centre section to fit but don't think it will make enough of a difference. |

saw a comment about boost related issues on your trip? Ive got a list as long as my arm on the mini to try and make some track time, for this weekend and juggle family time too, |

A td04 actuator should be easy to come by or even borrow. Or you could buy this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/122510628758 |

The 18G might be a bit much power-wise? Concerned that I still have a minor head gasket leak as the expansion bottle was still getting high in Germany this year after laps, but don't think it blew coolant out like last year (ambient temp was lower this year though). Upping the power might force my hand into rebuilt/new long engine? Although I'm still considering this option now, rather than just fix turbo.... Quote:

Throw a used td04 back on for time being with gaskets prob could do all this for sub £90 and use while save for a rebuild or sti swap.. :)
|
Have you checked the float and play in The turbo, easy enough to do if you have a silicone inlet pipe?

We had that on one of Rob's old cars, we were both convinced it was the turbo binding, but it ended up being a loose wastegate sorted by applying more pre-load to the actuator. If your bearings are shot you would be blowing oil through at a fair rate. The oil seals are like mini circlips either side of the bearing sleeve. So if the sleeve is worn it would soon knock out the seals. |
I had this too!! Totally forgot , thought same but was the waste gate penny rattling caused but actuator preload issue I swapped a new turbo in and solved but didn't need it as found issue after removed..
|
I love forums.
Someone asks what car events are on this weekend and the thread turns into a full on diagnostic session. |
Lydden Hill for me with a couple of mates (may aswell take advantage of free VIP tickets again), much to the wifes disgust! :wife:

Well after 100 miles there was dirt on it - poor thing isn't used to dirt ha ha ha |
Varnished patio table and 2 chairs.
Went for walk on Bexhill seafront. Skipped the ice cream as too cold and windy..... Back home to varnish another 2 chairs in the sun. How can being 5 miles from Bexhill seafront be so different and why are chairs so damn fiddly and boring to varnish. Now time for cider, ice and some home made burgers.... |
VERY nearly ended up doing a 10 hour round trip to buy a TVR chimera, but couldn't be arsed with the drive and possabiliy of it being a dog.
So ended up fitting front front ABS sensor to Daughters Mini cooper, Fitted ARB bushes, Fixed and replaced passenger door lock /central locking, Fitted broken rear fog light, and now packing on the calories courtesy of captain morgans and waiting for a batman grille takeaway. |
Putting my car back to std & taking a serious look at what I want to do with the bike.
|
I have done a cool car thing - all will be revealed tomorrow...........
