A Focus RS or a Civic Type R.

Focus RS prices are softening to Type R levels. I think the Type R would be a better track tool.

Type R's where far quicker than the Focus RS

Which model type r ? The latest or one just before 2014/16?

LOL - I think the type R's you refer to are pretty rare beasts !

the 2014 one FK2 - if you look at the ring laps of them the steering input look a lot less than the RS, looks a more balanced platform.

AMG is probably quicker in most places - just don't know if I like it. You can get the M135i pretty cheap now, my mate has just got one. Its pretty rapid.

M135i are good power houses but such an ugly car in many respects.

After driving a M135i and then the E46 M3 I picked the M3 for being a drivers car

What about a RS megane??

Both as good as each other I would say. It was a very close call for me between the RS and Civic R. The civic is actually a bit more engaging to drive. For me the RS’s 4WD, the sound (the pops and bangs are great fun) and the RS heritage swung it. Plus the Civic is pretty over the top looks wise. But I would suggest driving both and make your choice. Either is good. Also, worth driving the Golf R. It’s down a bit on power but doesn’t feel like it and quality wise it knocks the other two out of the park.

In the dry, at least.

I really like the look of these, and i think simple filter and map makes a big difference

It needs an LSD to make it really interesting, many folks swap them from M3’s

Really not on any of the M3 sites I’m on, it’s never a option when moving

I’ve read a few both sides of the pond after reading way back that the 135i had no LSD, looks to not be simple with a custom prop being needed :angst:

The M4 is an interesting proposition. Seriously quick in a line and considering its 2 generations away from my M3 its got to be pretty mega. But, its a bit big, its another price point and I'd want the Comp Pack which is a further price point. Interestingly enough around a track is not much or even slower than the FK2 type R. I don't even know why that should worry me - its not like I'm going to get a new lap record or even close.

The civics always seem to break the ring record when they come out lol ,
It's a very tried and tested engine to the k20.
I personally think the fk2 looks bonkers and would like to have ago .

Its easy to get lost in figures when in reality, you probably wont ever use it to its max.

When I was deciding, the way the car drove and looked was as important, if not more important than the flat out figures. It took me a long time to find anything that gave me the buzz the scoob did, everything just felt a bit dull. I think Scott found the same with his audi experience.

The RS is still fairly new to me, but it does give me that fizz when I drive it. It works as an everyday car in normal mode and then stick it in track and it comes alive. Very clever as it really is like two different cars.

It does have a couple of small annoyances. The fuel tank is too small. £58 to fill it and around town you wont see much more than 200 miles. The Sync 3 is great but the stereo could be better considering it is the upgrade and has 10 Sony speakers. Its not any better than the standard system I had in the Merc.

1951 Massey Ferguson T20, no power steering, rubbish brakes,you practically have to stop to change gear, bur will go anywhere,albeit slowly and great fun.

Looks pretty good...and with their 5 year/unlimited miles warranty, that's a bonus too. Just depends if it really feels 'special' enough :)
