My Current project.

Evening all, thought I'd put some pictures up of the current scoob of mine I'm using.

Purchased a 02 wrx in Sedona red, car had been 'chaved' up a little for my taste but the engine / running gear are totally stock including all its cats just a simple prodrive rear box and tein springs . And very good underneath.
So I've set about redoing a few bits.
Here is the car on arrival home.
http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/x...psvdn8b9zb.jpg
http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/x...psju2e1ar0.jpg

Now Tow hook removed, spoiler removed, tyre paint wiped off,
The boot has been dropped off to have the holes welded over , debaged and painted , the morrette mask are being redone as standard of paint was crap, and a sti 7 scoop at the same time.
I was planning on using some jdm sti 7 hid headlights but once arrived one was very poor condition on the lense so they have been returned tho I did trail fit them and to my surprise I kinda prefer the morrettes so that's why there being done.
http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/x...psgdlgg928.jpg

http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/x...psyhih7el9.jpg
http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/x...psw5jehlmm.jpg
I fitted some sti7 clocks as wanted the the shift light/buzzer.
Brakes are carbone lorrine pads up front and Kevlar pads rear on a set of groved discs all round and hell braided lines
Will update more on parts arriving ,

Bolesroor 08-06-2018 06:50 PM

Looks clean and love the colour:ok:

BIG"E" 08-06-2018 06:57 PM

Looks good ..

Hopefully we will see it at a meeting soon.. :ok:

NL03Scooby 08-06-2018 07:14 PM

Looks nice, I’m a fan of the colour too. Always nice to have a project to work on and great to keep a record of the changes and developments as you go.

Banstead Stig 08-06-2018 09:42 PM

Very nice.

I'm not a red car fan, but that looks good.

Steve_PPP 09-06-2018 10:12 AM

Very nice, as above I love this colour on a scoob. You've got one of the very last on a '52 plate bug as the blobs onwards were the normal red.

Looks a tidy example :ok:

scooby doo 09-06-2018 10:59 AM

Cheers guys, the colour is a marmite one, i like it 80% don't :)
Even more so being spoilerless.

There's still few things to do and parts to arrive, the fog lights need the film peeling off put i had notice the drivers side had a stone chip in so ive left till sourced another light or covers but unsure on covers?

Hrimfaxi 09-06-2018 01:40 PM

Very cool, I quite like the colour!

Frenchie 09-06-2018 04:06 PM

I kept getting stone chips on my fog lights on my old WRX , but problem was solved by zunsprort who make some very good mesh covers.

nikkinokkinoo 09-06-2018 10:35 PM

that's cool

scotty 10-06-2018 10:51 AM

Nice looking bug benji you should get these to protect your fog/driving lights .

Rdlangy1 10-06-2018 11:03 AM

Very nice looking motor indeed :ok:

Think the colour is lovely..

Hope to see it at a meet soon :ok:

scooby doo 10-06-2018 12:25 PM

I'm not sure on covers ATM, keep googling images on them.
Either plain sti style or those mesh ones .

I'm looking at redoing the wirring on the morrettes a little better and wondered can you buy male type connector to push into the standard 3pin plug on the stock wrx loom where they would normal push onto the bulb ?

scooby doo 10-06-2018 12:31 PM

Ignore me. Found exactly what I was after , il can now start about making the lights perfect plug and play and not effecting any of the standard loom. As never been a real fan on how the wire theses up,

scooby doo 22-06-2018 03:47 PM

Parts starting to role in now to keep me busy.
Nothing special just service bits and parts I wanted renewed.

Rdlangy1 22-06-2018 03:53 PM

:ok: can’t beat shiny and clean new parts

Steve_PPP 22-06-2018 05:16 PM

Lot of familiar parts there, but with the same age cars I expect we've had the same things get tired! Looks like it'll keep you busy a while :ok:

scooby doo 22-06-2018 05:34 PM

Yea that's the issue with age.
I did the rad as you like you said best to keep the cooling system in tip top , I saw in your thread about the bottom cross over pipe so I thought while rads out I'd do that too ,
And I like the oem stuff so that's why I used oem hoses and clips instead of the after market types , and alyn hooked me up with a koyo rad for a very good price and used the later blobeye version for extra pressure release .

NL03Scooby 22-06-2018 05:58 PM

Sometimes you can’t beat replacing simple parts which are a little tired. Refreshing plastics and pipes can lift an engine bay for little effort and it gets you looking and checking other components as you go.

scooby doo 22-06-2018 06:23 PM

Biggest one for that is the screen wash bottle that's a pet hate for me , new one was £19 with the cap.

Where from, ICP??

Didn't happen to find a supplier for the expansion bottle whilst hunting did you?

scooby doo 22-06-2018 08:08 PM

Yes icp , it's a jdm one so 3liter instead of 4/5 what ever uk ballon one is . It's sat behind the rad hose on the picture I posted earlier today ,
I have a feeling they do the over flow tank too , the website is like tardiss to find certain bits but I'm sure I saw one .

seventune 23-06-2018 10:47 AM

Good call on the parts you're changing. I think as a couple have already said it can really help with the engine aesthetics. Good looking bug too. I don't see many in that colour on the road around here, few black and blue ones.... looks mint dude...

scooby doo 26-06-2018 07:09 PM

Couple little items arrived today ,
Later version header tank as mine the older metal type.
V.clean intake snorkel as mine was missing ,
Mishimoto rad stays.
Fuse box cover as mine had a scratch,
Pair of polybushed trailing arms as mine tired and something I was going to do in part of my winter overhaul and came with the top bracket too.
http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/x...ps7blwjiul.jpg

After not liking the sti7 headlights on this colour bug,
So had the Morette's redone but with the sides More red,

http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/x...psqk87alc0.jpg

Rdlangy1 26-06-2018 07:13 PM

Looking really smart...

Liking the colour scheme on the morrettes

Red Baron 26-06-2018 08:11 PM

Looking really nice, always wanted a Mica red classic but they seem to be rarer than my red. 2 tone morettes are a nice touch.

asperformance 27-06-2018 08:29 AM

why swap an alloy header tank for a later plastic one??

scooby doo 27-06-2018 11:10 PM

This evening I managed to do a little bit more to turn into a further marmite car,:-|
I had the boot welded over, debaged and painted along with the bumper.
http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/x...psof2zcyd9.jpg

http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/x...psewg0ffd0.jpg

MHeader tank swapped as prefer the look of the later revised one , the alloy Ones always look tired .

Rdlangy1 28-06-2018 08:19 AM

Nice and slick looking :ok:

Steve_PPP 28-06-2018 08:25 AM

Nice job, looks a very clean car :ok:

Neil97rs 28-06-2018 06:47 PM

Looking good

scooby doo 28-06-2018 09:40 PM

Cheers guys ,
Needs few more bits , I.e front bumper repainting and good machine polish/detail.
I'm still very marmite on it myself , scoops on and lights in.
http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/x...psb4axpaib.jpg

Rads in and new pipes ,
All service items are in now too and will be dropping it off for engine mounts and trailing arms to be done,
http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/x...psmdtzge1i.jpg

scotty 28-06-2018 10:29 PM

Looking really good and does look a mean bug .

scooby doo 15-07-2018 08:26 PM

Right , bit of an update .
1st the car is sat in my local guru's (few members use) as I've put my back out and try to rest it off,
It's gone in for the uprated engines mounts as the original left side had broke.
The lower trailing arms swapped out.
Oil filter and new dipstick as mine was too grubby
I found out the the prodrive rear box is actually made by scorpion so with that in mind I orderd a 2.5 non res centre pipe and 2nd decat from road runner who supply scorpion stuff, quality is very good and impressed. ICP hooked me up full oem gaskets and bolts this is all being done in one go,

I found the rear diff bearings have actually worn causing a wheel bearing sound so another diff has been purchased along with full seal kit and cover bolts so I can refurb it before fitting .

The headlights grrrr I've decided there not for me and give the car the wrong look I'm going for even tho I've just paid £100 to have the masks painted I've purchased a new set of o.e lights to put back in along with a sti style 3D grill.

Wheels next I just collected 5x powder coated sti 7/8 rims wrapped in Bridgestone Re070 to give me some more grip.
And a full arch liner and clip set for the drives side from my local dealers as I noticed it's split which I'm. It suprised as there really poor and flimsy compared to the new ones I put on my gc8.
And a pair of very rare ion coated jdm only foglights which where a must. The actual reflector is the coated part not the lenses.

Few pics of the bits arriving while I await the car back.
Surrey rolling road is booked for early August for a fueling check before I go to ring at the end of Aug.

http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/x...psloug905k.png

Red Baron 15-07-2018 10:00 PM

Certainly coming along. Are the clips stupid prices, I need to replace 2 of the wheel arch liner clips that go through to the bumper?

Anger 16-07-2018 08:06 AM

Can’t believe you would go back to the standard headlights, worst part of a bugeye if you ask me

scooby doo 16-07-2018 10:29 AM

Agree on that but the morrettes don't suit just this colour car and to aggressive/racer look as I want to make it low key, and will carry on with my original idea and source another pair of sti lights if can find a decent set.

scooby doo 17-08-2018 12:22 PM

I thought I'd put a small update on this.

I've decided to run a standard look but concentrate on a few areas.
So currently since buying the car a couple of months ago I've still not had much seat time with work and life and with preparation for my ring trip I'd replace a few comman issues with the older cars in hope it becomes reliable. (He hopes)
So currently it still remains on the stock 218ps map (slow version)

I have serviced the whole car and getting some miles in around 80-90 so far this includes buying it but enjoying it.
So things done -

Millers engine oil / genuine filter
Millers gear box oil and diff.

Scorpion 2.5 2nd decat
Scorpion 2.5 non res centre pipe I used scorpion as the prodrive exhaust where licensed made by scorpion and stamped prodrive so that was my reason choosing these and the quality is nice much better than previous stiff I've used .

Amazing attention to detail there buddy :ok:

Looks superb :10:

Steve_PPP 17-08-2018 02:16 PM

Good work :ok:

Not going to lose any money on a good original condition car these days!

scooby doo 17-08-2018 03:11 PM

Cheers .
Will require some body shop time for polish and paint, so be a while before it's a clean car as lots of plans still so seems pointless getting paint work addressed ATM when il be crawling under over the winter months in the garage.

I had a spare hour today so In goes the walbro. Nice easy job and one less worry to think about.
http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/x...psykq4tamg.jpg

Steve_PPP 17-08-2018 04:36 PM

Is it refitted yet? I've heard a lot of people say the original yellow-browny colour filter sock is better than the walbro one, think its slightly bigger so reaches further into the fuel at the bottom of the tank?

Either way, I was recommended to re-use the original sock when swapping to a walbro....

scooby doo 17-08-2018 06:11 PM

Me too, but spoke to alyn and I decided to use the walbro as it's only few mm smaller and mine had small black bits on once I let it dry out ,

alfa male 17-08-2018 07:04 PM

I've been passing yours all week and the car looks great!
Have you thought of a small carbon lip along the boot edge?

scooby doo 17-08-2018 07:16 PM

Thanks . Not thought any more on the boot side I only removed the boot holes as the nasty spoiler was taken off and I thought let's try doing it wingless , I was going to try the sti a-line spoiler, but my minds been taken off the body ATM and concentration on handiling / servicing . Shall see how it handles the ring then make some notes on that then go from there I guess ,
Really would like the uk300 skirt to give it a more stock look
As pictured

seventune 18-08-2018 01:43 AM

I remember taking my STI 5 wing off my scoob for painting.... it was a 94 with a later style high level rear wing.... had KW V3 and just about every Cusco bar and brace the brochure had to throw at it.... anyway my point was I was shocked how different the car felt at mid to high speed without it, especially on motorway runs without it....

Love the chin spoiler on yours dude, looks really nice.... it would be a close choice between the one you have and this one.... like you said already the UK300 for a more subtle look.... depends what your overall aim is....

Red Baron 18-08-2018 08:03 AM

Looking good Benji. If you haven't done it I'd recommend a power steering fluid change and a clutch fluid change. It's probably been in there since new and both mine were black.

scooby doo 18-08-2018 01:11 PM

That's good shout about the fluids . Il check them out.

nikkinokkinoo 18-08-2018 01:30 PM

Nice job

scooby doo 24-08-2018 07:04 PM

Today I've retro fitted the MY03 PPP Ecu as I already have the prodrive Y pipe, 3rd cat delete and rear box along with panel filter , pump 2.5 non res centre and grade 7 plugs.
Bum dyno says it's got better pic up nothing exciting but still fair chunk more than the original subaru map.
reading up the 03 was the better map and ecutek instead of the MY01/02 cars fitted with the piggy back , not really up in this as only really fiddled with sti's so all learning.

Simon-Sti 26-08-2018 10:12 AM

Really loving the attention to detail on this build, all the nice new parts fitted etc, works wonders for my OCD :)

scooby doo 26-08-2018 05:11 PM

Cheers it's a mega long way of from where I want it ATM but working my way through. Lots of on going ideas.

Be good to get some people's views on suspension so would like to hear how people find there's with the spec they run,

I've looked at spending around £1000 on renewing the damper set up so these seem to be the on the list -
O.E shocks / eibach pro all new oem top mounts £750
Bc coils softer spring set 5/4kg £800
Tein super advance using oem top mounts £726
Tein flex coils using there top mounts £830
Blistien ps coilovers £1150 using oem top mounts

The car isn't a daily and will do the odd track day but looking for good handling not a super solid skipping every where car.
Currently running tein springs and handles well pushing it but drives ****e anything else .

SpecB 26-08-2018 06:57 PM

I found the BCs on mine (standard rates) too stiff for road use of probably go for the Bilsteins or KYB AGXs with the Eibach (or even STI pink) springs.

scooby doo 26-08-2018 07:29 PM

Thanks for that do you know what rate they where? They are now offering 5/4kg which seem to be the softest coil springs I've seen the tein I think are 7/6 rate , il see how much the AGX are.
The tein fitted ATM look like there far to short only a few coils

scotty 26-08-2018 08:10 PM

Im running this set up on the foz and i found it good for a daily and went round knockhill track found it handled very well considering the size of it . http://www.pedders.co.uk/subaru-impr..._p28563173.htm

scooby doo 26-08-2018 09:06 PM

Cheers Scott that's now thrown another set in the mix , cool they are ready built

scooby doo 27-08-2018 10:51 AM

Late night wet pic.
No spoiler and colour is it really a scoob ?
http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/x...ps1ahwsb3r.jpg

Bolesroor 27-08-2018 10:52 AM

I have a agx/eibach combo and a geo for fast road on my 96 sti wagon. I use the car daily and think it's a good set-up and when pushed it's probably the tyre ( Toyo) and my driving ability that affects the confidence in the car rather than the set-up. Incidentally never had the opportunity to play with the settings currently on 2 front and rear. :ok:

scooby doo 27-08-2018 01:09 PM

Any idea on the price of the AGX I havnt yet seen them for sale in GDA form?

Think mine were 6/7 they were good on track but too stiff on roads.

Agree that rate is firm il probably be looking at the 5/4 set up they do.

scooby doo 07-09-2018 01:22 PM

Right back from the ring,
Had good time and the car never misssed a beat. I did 6 laps on the last lap Ran low 9min.
The stock caliper with Godspeed discs and rcl6 pads just wasn't up to the job so been looking around but not got the budget for Ap / k sports etc and been looking at brembo but the gold wasn't doing it for me,
These latest gen set popped up so I've bought them.
They have newish set of PFC pads already.
http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/x...pso6fc74ux.jpg
I will over the weekend make a order at import car parts for the hardware and let alyn supply the discs.
Next on the list are refreshed alloy arms, CDF alk and poly bush
So now it's case of fitting these with new bolts and whiteline correction kit.
http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/x...psekkuwovm.jpg

Half tempted to loose the horse shoe and undertray for less nose weight and more cooling but unsure what pros and gains il get I can use a whiteline brace to stiffen up the wishbone sections

scooby doo 07-09-2018 01:24 PM

Quick photo of the ring site just need to purchase one.
You can see the tein springs where not up to the job for it a lot of lean.
http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/x...psie6ebhvp.jpg

scooby doo 12-09-2018 07:08 PM

Small update.
Alyn supplied some brembo HC disks to go on with the sti calipers, got some new oem bolts too.
Forge heat blanket to try help reduce some bay temps down.
http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/x...pssva9e7nc.jpg

Next on the list is coilovers as the suspension was far to soft on track so I'm just pondering on which set next to go with.
I'd like to sort an oil cooler and oil catch can too,

Check my thread for a hassle free oil cooler - size etc..

obviously you can fit bigger (see Rob’s (NL03Scooby)) thread for his install

Also just had the RCM Trak Attack Catchcan fitted to mine which is a nice kit with return to sumo if you have a baffled one fitted :ok:

scooby doo 24-09-2018 03:03 PM

Just thought I'd post few phone snaps of bits that I've purchased recently .

1st off prodrive sti sports cat this is the later bell mouth version.
http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/x...psxxmaipha.jpg

A blob sti vf35 turbo
http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/x...psfgnd9m5n.jpg

A set of sti pinks that I'm going to have flowed and calibration checked.
http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/x...psh4okrehx.jpg

A OPB 3port catch tank plus a couple meters of black tubing. Not sure how / where it's going but something to look at.
http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/x...ps3xzu62qx.jpg

A Sti group n rear diff mount that I'm hoping ties in nicely with all my others.
http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/x...psiuokskmc.png

And lastly the brakes are on.
http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/x...ps6ig61ebz.jpg

The car has its Mot this week so il be cracking on after messing around getting the bits on and joys of heat wrapping items.

Rdlangy1 24-09-2018 08:41 PM

Great progress mate :ok:

scooby doo 01-11-2018 05:02 PM

Great effort. Wish I had the enthusiasm with mine to follow the same path!

scooby doo 01-11-2018 07:17 PM

Cheers,
Don't know about looking new but certainly won't get dirty while working on it,
Il start messing around with underneath once it's back together and all up to mapping stage.
There's been a lot of small bits done but all carried out by myself.
The garage is small so il spin it around lift the rear and start messing around with bushes.

Bolesroor 02-11-2018 03:39 PM

Stunning, so envious of your talent :worthy:

scooby doo 02-11-2018 07:09 PM

Cheers but no talent there..
Should see the exterior it's filthy and fair few marks but I'm concentrating on underneath 1st then work my way outside.

scooby doo 05-11-2018 02:46 PM

Little more this weekend,
New brake servo, ( not doing one of these again )
Turbo fitted.
Forge turbo jacket.
Intercooler on.
80% there..

http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/x...pspggcnlzw.jpg

Now awaiting a couple bits, left hand fuel guard , alternator mount and wiring bracket are at the powder coaters so this is stopping play,
Need some de-ionised water to mix with the new coolant,
Thinking of changing the recirc aswell.
And some more wrap for the down pipe then we should be trying to start the thing. Really hope I've done everything correct,

scooby doo 10-11-2018 01:26 PM

The engine bay is now complete and best I can be bothered with,
It's all ready for mapping but that will wait as going to start messing around suspension.
Few pics...

scooby doo 10-11-2018 01:40 PM

I'm going to attempt a couple sprint days and see how it gets on.

Steve_PPP 10-11-2018 06:19 PM

Superb effort mate, again! :10:

scooby doo 30-11-2018 05:50 PM

New alternator on and carbon brace.
I will be removing the rad stays and battery clamp once source another clean oem set.
http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/x...psiz86gwpn.jpg

Removed the aftermarket double din as not my thing and fitted a Ra blank panel and oem stereo. Much happier as all lights up that shade of green. And fitted a jdm hazard switch.
http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/x...ps7sev1ux3.jpg

Still not touched the suspension as been to cold/wet and lazy..

scooby doo 06-01-2019 05:08 PM

A few updated pictures now the coilovers are on.
Need to raise the rear height slightly.
New phone so decided to try the camera out.

I managed to pick up a damage free sti intercooler with zero core damage just a little grubby so if any one has some tips on cleaning the core up? wondered if there is a foam or similar i could spray on then wash off??

Bolesroor 29-01-2019 02:46 PM

Very impressed and loving the detail :worthy:

Madcolt 29-01-2019 03:44 PM

Just read threw your thread there mate and wow this car is stunning and so clean. Some nice work been done.

Steve_PPP 29-01-2019 05:05 PM

Good job there! And that's a rare find with the tmic, most are grubby with bent fins all over the place these days!

scooby doo 29-01-2019 08:11 PM

Cheers chaps.
The intercooler is great I'm very happy, I've just cleaned it up with some house hold cleaner and it's come up a treat. It's taken me 3-4 months to find one in this condition and tbf I had given up a little till I saw this.
So now I need to source an sti undertray as already fitted the sti scoop and will allow a little more from the car at mapping.

IBenjieI 31-01-2019 11:14 PM

This build. :worthy:

I really can’t get over how clean that bay is. I’ve been looking around for a clean sti top mount but no luck so far. Willing to pay the money though :ok:

scooby doo 01-02-2019 09:37 AM

Cheers. its coming along slowly but still a long way off.
The paint work on the car ISN'T great especially the front end so this will need addressing in the future but theres zero point why im messing around unbolting everthing,

I gave the cooler a clean and heres how it came up so im happy,
https://i756.photobucket.com/albums/...psmkjsbtj6.png

Im currently working on the rear diff supports this week to help stiffen up the drivetrain as this is the last bit of the puzzle., The Group n diff brace is going in along with a Spec c T Bar support, Just to note the spec c rubber compound is stiff than that of the cheese made wrx versions, Along with Whiteline outrigger bush supports to increase the stiffness.
All new Hardware for this of course.

Im currently at a loss where to go next with handling...
Im going to renew the lateral arm bushs,
Subframe lock out bolts,
but im not sure where else to go from here for extra grip?
Do the H braces make an actual difference Rear strut braces?????

i can see LSD's being one to look at next too.

scooby doo 03-04-2019 02:14 PM

Looking good Benji. When you changed the ball joints for the alloy arms did you have any problems getting the old ball joints out of the hub, still not done mine yet and heard some nightmare stories of the pinch bolt snapping and the ball joints being seized into the hub?
