Giblets jaunes
 

So in England when tax is increased on fuel people moan and may be complain to their MP. Here fuel,diesel in particular, has had several tax increases as the government tries to discourage diesel vehicles. So the Gilets jaune,yellow florescent jackets,are formed and last weekend brought most of the country to a standstill by blocking main roads and motorways. This Saturday the plan is to bring Paris to a complete halt with around 200,000 Gilets jaune descending on the capital.

True, French are a strange race,incredible placid and social drinkers rather than heavy drinkers. Perfectly happy to wander around big towns at midnight on a Saturday, no groups of drunken yobs, unlike Brighton which was described as a war zone by a local Bobby I used to run with. That all changed when they have a beef against the government, in this case it's not just about fuel,but growing divide between rich and not rich.

Saw the other day they tipped manure on the doorstep of government building!

As long as I can avoid them Monday on my way to and from Amiens they can do what they like! Ha ha

So after all the protests and riots in Paris the french government have backed down,at least for the next 6 months, and said that the planned increases in fuel and electricity have been cancelled, the sricter controle technique (mot) has been scrapped and a reduction in tax on the rich has been scrapped. Not sure how long the peace will last as this is not just about fuel increases, but the ever widening gap between rich and poor.

Bit of a blow for Mr "I never back down" Macron.
