Do I Need A Remap?

Hi all, over the weekend I change my standard cat for a sports cat. Just managed to get it ready for the tunnel run. I be bothered changing it very year for the mot. The only is that in either 4th of 5th gear with full boost it will not go above 6000 revs. It’s also bit jerky. Is it cutting the fuel off?
Very thing else is fine with the car.

So the big question is do I need JGM to work his magic?

The only other mod I've done is the exhaust and a panel filter.

Hi
What year, model etc?

Thanks

DM 26-10-2009 11:20 AM

Sorry should said. It's a Classic MY99, so a ver 5, STI.

I would say yes you do need a mapping sesh. Sounds like she running rich?

Are you getting a slightly "fuelly" smell at start up?

Also, is the sportcat new or 2nd hand?

DM 26-10-2009 01:35 PM

I don't smell that much fuel than I normally do btw and the jerkyness only happens on boost.

The cat is brand new from scoobyworld, its the ninja one.

I reckon you need Simon to have a look to be safe.

DM 26-10-2009 02:22 PM

I'll email him and see what he says.

E-mailed JGM he says it sounds like it is overboosting, so looking to down the Simtek route.

Sounds a bit extreme to me.
the 100CEL sports cat should not make that much difference to the boost as the cat still provided a levelof restriction that would not be there if it was a full decat.

if it is overboosting then the restrictor pill needs replacing for about £1.00 or even make the hole in the restrictor larger by 0.1mm.

I think the VF28 Turbo on the STi 5 runs a 1mm restrictor in the boost control hose..
You could try the larger restrictor from a TD04 Equipped UK car or 2001> WRX.

I have a few kicking about if needed.

Would also be worth cleaning the pipes to/from the boost controlsolenoid with car cleaner as they may be partially blocked with oil/dirt.

After reading your post 5 times (about the restrictor pill) and a google search. I think I understand a bit about it. But I am not completely sure about it or where to if it or cleaning the pipes to/from the boost control solenoid. I am not that good with cars yet :(

I did read this pdf about it, from here http://www.cobbforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32552

I'll try to see if I can see the pipe they are talking about. But if I could get one of these pills off you that will be great.

Just wondering if it is the 'open neck' designed that is cause it?

the sti restrictor pill is 0.8mm the uk 1mm..

if you look into a sportscat they are not that restrictive.. usually knocks all of 5bhp off a 300bhp car using a sportscat rather than decat.

the issue is the open neck downpipe causing the boost to rise to boost cut as it spools.

thats ignoring the fact that the standard map is very advanced on timing and changing to a sportscat and therefore increased the boost it would be very wise to get it setup for it.

Hi Simon I thought that was the case, hence, why you are remapping it on the 16th :)

Thanks to JGM for mapping my car. He's a true Gent.. enough said

The only downer is that a nice BT Sales man decided to give my car whack up the back side.
