Do i need a re map?

Hi All, i have fitted a fmic to my 98 terzo it seems to run ok but every now and again it sputters when i put my foot down. It is still boosting to 16psi but some times it doesn't, also most of the time when i hit a high rev it looses power as if it is running out of petrol But not all the time, when it doesnt decide to play up it run's beautifully...Do i need a remap? If so would i be able to remap my ecu or will i need to purchase a uprated one?

The car is still pretty much standard appart from air filter a the small cat has been removed so i still have the silencer and the big cat in, also i have a boost controller which is not on a high setting at all, i have been told to remove that as it is a cheap one and is not healthy for the car, which i will do soon... Any ideas??

I would say yes. You will need the mapping looked at.

Speak to Scott (Silversurfer) he'll see you right.

As above, and I would say get it done ASAP or you will kill the engine and be looking at big bills.

The mods you describe are not small mods like just bolting on an induction kit. They are likely causing the engine to run very lean, and boost spiking to the point you are hitting fuel cut or worse.

Thanks guys i will send silver surfer a message, much appreciated....

Dont boot it untill map is sorted mate. Your lucky not to have done a piston or spun a shell.

lots of scare mongering going on here....

I think you have a problem with the FMIC install if you are getting driving problems.
It should run OK with the FMIC if all the pipes are tight.

Boost spool may be slightly slower though.

the concerning thing is 16psi without a remap, even before the FMIC.
The car is likley to be detonating, or at least pulled a load of timing to prevent it.

the 97/98 ecu cannot be remapped, so would need a apexi, simtek or similar.

Thanks guys, is there any cheaper option's like getting a wrx sti ecu or a Rb320 ecu? Or is that just me being wishfull?

Its not that simple. As the plugs on your ecu are different, from my 99/00 onwards. Yours is a four plug ecu and 99/00 onwards are a three plug ecu's. It will be easier to get a Simtek or a Apexi unit.

cheers, does anyone know the max psi i can run without harming the engine?

Scott.T 09-11-2009 01:20 PM

I would only recommend around 1bar (14.5psi), until it can be verified as OK.

WRX/STi ECU requires a wiring mod and also runs to advanced for a stock UK.

Thanks matey, think you just saved my engine..... Much appreciated...
