E85...whats the score with this please?
 

Id like some info on this fuel please.
Is it a bio fuel that gives around 107ron like ive read?
Also read on 22b of a E100 but it was only used at a 20% ratio.
So can you use E85 neat?
And whats the score with E100?
Dave Beck got me thinking of it,with him having a Morrisons just next to him.
So did a google search for the closest one to me and its only 1 mile further away than my closest shell garage.
So is there an advantage of useing this over V power(with or without octane booster)?
And what about meth....can you mix....say 80% E85 with 20% meth?
Lots of questions here but would be nice to know the score before building a Solaris multi map plan.

Like you, I'd like to know a bit more about this and it's availability. I have a Morrisons not much more than 1/4 of a mile away.

What are the benefits / power to be gained from using E85 as opposed to V Power?

Would I need Solaris "multi map" set up to run either E85 / V Power. Would I be ok to get down to amber fuel light on one, switch the map if I had to and fill up on the other?

i heard about this fuel when i had the rx-7, there was a thing on 5th gear about it ages ago but the only thing that put me off was that it was only avaiable in 2 morrisons stations in the uk so it seemed abit pointless at the time to travel 20miles there to fill up an £80 tank in a car that only did 9mpg, but that was quite a while ago

I don't think it is at every Morrisions and I think the pumps are normally locked to stop people putting it in by mistake.

I did read an article on it a couple of months back and it read as if the car needs to be mapped to use it i.e you can't just bung it in.
I think efficiency is a little different so unless mapped you end up worse off.

Apparently they question you before you can put it in your car,and ask do you know what your doing,lol.
And yes,mapping is essential otherwise it runs very lean,but if you have a map for it and the right fuel set up,you can run it 100% pure.

OK if you wanna drive round looking for morrisons.
It's bad enough searching out for V-power, hence why my map is on Esso 97RON.

I did read up on this awhile ago now in some magazine, i remember reading that injectors have to be changed and also the fuel lines as it eats away at them after a period of time. Will try and find the mag and post up the article.

Agreed,i have to travel 8 miles odd for a Vpower and loads if wanting E85.
But if it comes our way via delivered(another grape vine,lol) or via shell,it could be good....:doubleup:
From readingabout 6 hours of threads today its apparently harmless if you have upgraded fuel parts.
It doesnt eat away at the lump parts like meth and this guy has been running it first at 20% then at 100% and has no damage what so ever after checking all areas of the engine that E85 has contact with....this is over a year BTW

some myths with regards to methonal and e85 use.

it does not eat fuel lines, or injector orings or fuel tank or plastic fuel cans etc..

You do not need to change anything other than get it mapped for it.. it is easier to run as a %'age.. as running pure e85 has issues with getting it... unless you are near a morrisons that stocks it etc..

I have used both meth and e85 in both my impreza's and mapped many using it.. usual gain on 10% mix in tank is 8% power increase but the car feels more responsive and crisp.
Mainly due to the fuelling change as both meth and e85 have a different stoich point to petrol and therefore the desired AFR is altered both as the reading is incorrect on the wideband as it is reading for just petrol and also because the meth / e85 allow a different AFR to be used.

sort of..

basically if you are running for example a vpower map, and a vpower map with mix of e85 (10% or 20% for example)..
when on the vpower map and wanting to change to vpower + e85 it is no bother.. you just got to petrol station and pour your can of e85 in and then fill with vpower and you have a perfect mix.. then next tank you want to swap to just vpower.. you run it down as low as possible but no need to be totally empty.. just switch to the vpower only map and fill with vpower and the small amount of e85 in the tank will just make it slightly safer

meth doesn't eat anything either.. the fuel lines are standard on my newage sti.. just 850cc injectors and I use 10%~20% mix regular. I have used e85 also but not 100% as nearest morrisons doesn't stock it.
